Past papers

How to use these papers

Biology past papers are most useful when you mark them as a marker would, not as a student would. The schemes list discrete points, and the gap between "I said roughly that" and "I said the point" is where most of the lost marks live. Highlight the exact phrase in your answer that earns each scheme point; if you cannot find one, you did not earn it.

Collect the command words as you go. Across a few papers you will see the same verbs — describe, explain, suggest, compare — attached to the same kinds of question, and knowing which one wants a mechanism is worth more than another pass through the content.

The practical papers reward experimental reasoning rather than recall, so they can be attempted early in your revision rather than saved until the content is finished. Working them alongside the theory also fixes the vocabulary faster, because you have to use it to describe a result.
