How to use these papers

Work these to time from the start. Mathematics is the subject where untimed practice is most misleading: almost everyone can do the questions given long enough, and the exam is partly a test of whether you can do them quickly enough.

Mark for method, not just for answers. Award yourself the marks the scheme gives for working even when the final number is wrong, and — more usefully — take marks off when you got the right answer with nothing written down. That habit is what stops a single arithmetic slip costing a whole question in the real exam.

Keep a list of every question you got wrong and redo it a week later rather than the same day. Redoing it immediately mostly tests whether you remember the fix; a week later tests whether you learned it.
