Tips

Work by component, not by date. 9709 splits into Pure, Mechanics and Probability & Statistics, and a paper from the wrong component teaches you nothing about the one you sit. Find out which papers your centre enters you for before you print anything.

Write the method line before the number. The mark scheme awards M marks for a correct approach even when the arithmetic slips, and a bare answer earns nothing when it is wrong. A page of numbers with no visible method is the most expensive habit in this subject.

When you check, do not ask whether your answer matches. Ask where the scheme gave marks — a substitution, a rearrangement, a stated condition — and whether your page shows that step. That is what turns a solved question into marks in June.
