    you你nǐagain又yòulate迟到chí dào了le。

    너ared 늦었어 again.

    again又yòurain下雨xià yǔ了le!

    비가ared falling again!

    today今天jīn tiānagain又yòuhave to要yàowork overtime加班jiā bān了le!

오늘도to work overtime加班jiā bān againwant / will / need要yàoto make做zuò(exclamation)啊a!

기억하세요: again又yòu는 뒤를 look, again / then再zài는 ahead를 look. again又yòuto come来lái(completed / change)了le = "여기가 다시 시작이다" (일어남); again / then再zàito come来láifirst一次yī cì = "한 번 더 해라" (미래). 미래의 again / then再zài는 (completed / change)了le를 쓰지 않으며, 과거의 again又yòu는 (completed / change)了le가 필요합니다.

    Watch out

    • again又yòu은 부정문에도 사용됩니다: he / him他tāagain又yòunot / haven't没méito come来lái ("그가ared come again didn't").
    • 곧variant of 重复重复chóng fù될 것이라면 want / will / need要yào와 함께 쓰세요: again又yòuwant / will / need要yào…(completed / change)了le ("이제ared comes again").
    2.2

    一直 — "오래전부터, continuously"

all along一直yì zhí은 문자 그대로 "한 직선" — 시간 속을 끊김 없이 그은 single, unbroken line을 상상해 보십시오.它会tā huìto describe描述miáo shù一个yí gèmovement动作dòng zuòmaybe或huòcondition状态zhuàng tài,run non-stop over a stretch — "continuously, the whole time, all along." 영어에서는 주로 "always"로 번역됩니다.

Structure: Subject + 一直 + Predicate *문자 그대로: "한 직선으로, [서술어]."

    I我wǒall along一直yì zhívery很hěnlike喜欢xǐ huanyou你nǐ。

    나는 너를 오래전부터 좋아했다.

    the boss老板lǎo bǎnalways一直yì zhívery很hěnbusy忙máng。

    사장님은 항상 바쁘시다.

eighteen十八岁shí bā suìafter以后yǐ hòuhe,他tāhas … ever since一直yì zhíalone一个人yí ge rénlived住zhù。

    그가 18살 때부터 혼자 산 지 오래다.

기억하세요: all along一直yì zhí = 시간 속의 한 직선 —to cut short中断zhōng duànnot have / haven't没有méi yǒu.it它tāto be / is是shìunbroken duration; for a repeating habit ("always does X"), switch to always总是zǒng shì.

    Watch out

    • at / in在zài (all along一直yì zhíat / in在zàito learn学习xué xí) 또는 all / both都dōu (all along一直yì zhíall / both都dōunot不bùto smoke (a cigarette…抽烟chōu yān)와 자주 짝을 이룹니다.
    • all along一直yì zhíto walk走zǒu는 "직진하다"라는 뜻도 가집니다 — 공간에서의 same "straight line" 개념입니다.
    2.3

    he他tāalways总是zǒng shìlate迟到chí dào。

    그는 항상 늦는다.

    your你nǐhome家jiāalways总是zǒng shìvery很hěnclean干净gān jìng。

    네 집은 항상 정말 깨끗하다.

기억하세요: general总zǒng = "모든 경우에서". always总是zǒng shì는 neutral "항상" (pattern)입니다. its grumbling twin always老是lǎo shì (아래)는 eye-roll를 더합니다.

    Watch out

    • 형용사 앞에는 degree word를 반드시 추가해야 합니다: always总是zǒng shìdegree / adjective linker很hěnrope累lèi ✓, not always总是zǒng shìrope累lèi.
    • always总是zǒng shì = recurring habit; all along一直yì zhí = one unbroken stretch. "He's always late" (매번)은 always总是zǒng shì; "it rained the whole time"은 all along一直yì zhí.
    2.4

    终于 — "마침내, 드디어"

finally终于zhōng yú는 긴 기다림 끝에 무언가가 마침내 일어나는 것을 표시하며, 안도감이나 기쁨이 빛납니다. end终zhōng은 "끝 / 피니시 라인" (the end终点zhōng diǎnto hit (the mark)中zhōng(modifier / structural particle)的deend终zhōng)이므로, finally终于zhōng yú는 *"피니시 라인에서 왔다"*는 뜻입니다. 영어의 "finally"와 달리,alone单独dān dú standingcannot不能bù néngto use in用于yòng yústart of phrase or sentence句首jù shǒu或句huò jùhorse's tail尾wěi — (completed / change)了le와 반드시 짝을 이뤄야 합니다.

    Structure: Subject + 终于 + Predicate + 了

    you你nǐfinally终于zhōng yúarrived到dào了le!

    드디어 왔구나!

    the homework作业zuò yèfinally终于zhōng yúdone做zuòfinished完wán了le!

    드디어 숙제를 다 했어!

기억하세요: end终zhōng = straining toward한 finish line — finally终于zhōng yú는 it crossingo'clock时shí sigh of relief, always sealed with (completed / change)了le.

    Watch out

    • (completed / change)了leto be / is是shìmandatory — finally终于zhōng yú…(completed / change)了le; never finally终于zhōng yú bare like English "finally" on its own.
    • It implies a welcome outcome. For a flat, neutral "in the end," use final最后zuì hòu.
    2.5

    几乎 — "거의, 거의"

almost几乎jī hū는 "거의, almost"를 뜻합니다 — mark에 exactly reaching but not quite crossing it. It loves company: it very often teams up with an "all" word (each每měi, all所有suǒ yǒu, all全quán … all / both都dōu) or a "none" word (not have / haven't没有méi yǒu, not不bù).

    구조: 几乎 + 每 / 所有 … 都 … · Subject + 几乎 + [不 / 没] + Predicate

almost几乎jī hūeveryone每个人měi ge rénall都dōuhas有yǒua phone手机shǒu jī。

    거의everyone have a phone.

    almost几乎jī hūno没有méi yǒuone人rénbelieves相信xiāng xìnhim他tā。

    거의no one believes him.

    my我wǒboss老板lǎo bǎnhardly几乎jī hūever不bùdrinks喝酒hē jiǔ。

    내 사장님drinks hardly ever.

기억하세요: almost几乎jī hū를 needle that stops just short of the mark로 생각하세요. almost几乎jī hū + all / both都dōu → "almost all"; almost几乎jī hū + not have / haven't没有méi yǒu → "almost none"; almost几乎jī hūnot不bù / almost几乎jī hūnot / haven't没méi → "hardly ever."

    Watch out

    • It points to one extreme (all or none) — pair it with a all / both都dōu / not have / haven't没有méi yǒu / not不bù to land the meaning.
    2.6

    只 — "오직"

only只zhǐ (zhǐ)는 "only"에 해당하는 일상적인 단어입니다. 부사이므로 동사(또는 can / will会huì / can / be able to能néng과 같은 보조어)에 붙어 - noun(명사)에는 붙지 않습니다. 이는 영어의 "only"가 명사 주변을 떠다닐 수 있는 것과 다릅니다.

    구조: 只 + Verb · 只 + 会 / 能 + Verb

    I我wǒonly只zhǐhave有yǒuone一个yí geolder brother哥哥gē ge。

I only have one older brother.

    I我wǒonly只zhǐwant想xiǎngto be with跟gēnyou你nǐtogether在一起zài yì qǐ。

I only want to be with you.

    I我wǒonly只zhǐcan能néngsay说shuōtwo两liǎngsentences句jùChinese中文Zhōng wén。

I can only say a couple of sentences in Chinese.

Remember: only只zhǐ는 동사 위에 위치합니다: I / me我wǒonly have ...只有zhǐ yǒu一个yí gè ("I only have one")은 맞지만, I / me我wǒto have / there is有yǒuonly只zhǐ一个yí gè은 틀립니다. 영어의 "only"는 이리저리 이동하지만, 중국어의 only只zhǐ는 동사에 단단히 고정됩니다.

    Watch out

    • only只zhǐ (zhǐ, "only")는 only只zhǐ (zhī), 즉 동물 개수법인 '한 마리의'와 동일한 글자로 쓰입니다 — 같은 문자지만 두 가지 발음과 역할이 있습니다.
    2.7

    we我们wǒ menalready已经yǐ jīngten years十年shí niánhaven't没méimet见jiàn了le。

We haven't seen each other for ten years now.

he他tāa week一个星期yí ge xīng qīhasn't没méishowered洗澡xǐ zǎo了le。

He hasn't showered in a week.

    you你nǐhow long多久duō jiǔhaven't没méibeen home回家huí jiā了le?

How long has it been since you went home?

Remember: "have done"는 시간을 동사 뒤에 배치하고; "haven't done"는 시간을 동사 앞에 배치합니다. to see看kàn(completed / change)了le十年shí nián = "watched for ten years"; 十年shí niánnot / haven't没méito see看kàn(completed / change)了le = "haven't watched in ten years." 여기서 (completed / change)了le는 "아직도 계속되고 있다"를 의미합니다.

    Watch out

    • 중국어는 "since [시간점]"이라는 표현을 피합니다. 대신 기간을 사용하세요 (三年sān niánnot / haven't没méi…(completed / change)了le), 또는 last time上次shàng cì…to be / is是shì… ("마지막으로…이었을 때는…").
    2.8

    Time + 才 + 动词 — "not until" (지체됨)

only then / not until才cái (cái)는 기대보다 늦게 행동을to delay拖延tuō yán시킵니다 — "until finally, as late as." then / just就jiù가 "already, 예상보다 빨리"라면, only then / not until才cáito be / is是shì 그 반대의 불만스러운 말투: "just then, finally, slow down."

    Structure: Subject + Time + 才 + Verb

I我wǒyesterday昨天zuó tiāneleven o'clock十一点shí yī diǎnnot until才cáigot home到家dào jiā。

I didn't get home until eleven last night.

he他tātwenty-five二十五岁èr shí wǔ suìnot until才cáistarted上shànguniversity大学dà xué。

He didn't start university until he was twenty-five.

Remember: only then / not until才cái = late / barely (then / just就jiù = early / already). 그리고 only then / not until才cái는 (completed / change)了le를 취하지 않습니다 — 지체됨 자체가 핵심이며, 완성된 결과물이 아닙니다: 四十岁sì shí suìonly then / not until才cáito marry结婚jié hūn ✓, 절대 only then / not until才cáito marry结婚jié hūn(completed / change)了le는 안 됩니다.

    Watch out

    • 같은 글자가 두 가지 역할을 합니다: 시간 앞에서는 "evening晚wǎn(completed / change)了le"(this point), 숫자 앞에서는 "only a little"(아래 2.12 참조).
    2.9

    先 … ,再 … — "first …, then …"

이벤트를 순서대로 나열하려면 **early先xiān … again / then再zài …**로 감싸세요 — "first …, (and) then …." 함정: 여기서 again / then再zài는regular通常tōng chángの "again"이 아니라 **"then / next"**를 의미합니다.

    Structure: 先 + Verb 1 ,再 + Verb 2

    first先xiānwash hands洗手xǐ shǒuthen,再zàieat吃chī。

Wash your hands first, then eat.

    you你nǐshould要yàofirst先xiāndo做zuòhomework作业zuò yèthen,再zàiwatch看kànTV电视diàn shì。

Do your homework first, then watch TV.

Remember: early先xiān…again / then再zài…에서 again / then再zài는 Sequence의 **"and then"**이며 "again"이 아닙니다. 두 개의 돌다리 위를 걷는 상상을 해보세요: 먼저 early先xiān를 밟고, 다음에 again / then再zài를 밟습니다.

    Watch out

    • early先xiān…to say again再说zài shuō는 "X를 먼저 하고, 그때 보자"는 뜻입니다 — "나중에 처리하자"는 느낌: early先xiānto have a meal吃饭chī fànto say again再说zài shuō.
    • 더 긴 순서를 이어붙일 때는 then / after然后rán hòu("and then")와 to catch and hold on接着jiē zhe("next")를 사용하세요.
    2.10

    一边 … 一边 … — 두 가지 일을 동시에 함

두 의도적인 행동이 동시에 일어나는가? **one side一边yī biān … one side一边yī biān …**으로 감싸세요 — "(do X) while (doing Y)." suffix of a noun of locality边biān은 "side"이므로, Literal로는 "한 쪽에서 … 다른 쪽에서 …" — 두 레일이 함께 달리는 것입니다.

    Structure: Subject + 一边 + Verb 1 (,) 一边 + Verb 2

I我wǒoften常常cháng chángwhile一边yì biānshowering洗澡xǐ zǎo,一边yì biānsing唱歌chàng gē。

I often sing in the shower.

    don't别biéwhile一边yì biāndriving开车kāi chē,一边yì biānmake calls打电话dǎ diàn huà。

    Don't make calls while driving.

Remember: suffix of a noun of locality边biān = "side" — 한쪽엔 하나의 행동, 다른 쪽엔 하나의 행동, 동시에. 구어에서는 suffix of a noun of locality边biān…suffix of a noun of locality边biān…로 줄어듭니다 (suffix of a noun of locality边biānto walk走zǒusuffix of a noun of locality边biānto chat聊liáo, "suffix of a noun of locality边biānto walk走zǒu며 대화하다").

    Watch out

    • 두 행동 모두 의도적이어야 합니다. "while X was going on"일 때는 …(modifier / structural particle)的detime时候shí hòu를 사용하세요.
    • 주요 행동은 보통 중국어에서 두 번째에 옵니다 (영어는 종종 순서를 바니다).
    2.11

    老是 — "always" (불만 표출)

always老是lǎo shì(또는 단순히 prefix used before the…老lǎo) 또한 "always"를 의미하지만, 이는 불만을 담고 있는 버전입니다. frustration이 가득 차 있으며, "you're always on your phone"와 같습니다. 눈치를 볼 때 always总是zǒng shì 대신 always老是lǎo shì를 사용할 수 있습니다.

    Structure: Subject + 老(是) + Predicate

    you你nǐwhy怎么zěn mealways老是lǎo shìlate迟到chí dào?

    Why are you always late?

    this这个zhè gemachine机器jī qìalways老是lǎo shìhaving出chūtrouble问题wèn tí。

This machine is always breaking down.

Remember: always总是zǒng shì는 중립적입니다. always老是lǎo shì는 불만을 표현합니다. 영어에 "ugh"를 덧붙일 수 있다면 always老是lǎo shì를 사용하세요.

    Watch out

    • 이것은 불만입니다 — 좋은 일에는 사용하지 마세요 (그럴 땐 always总是zǒng shì를 사용하세요).
    • 형용사 앞에는 not不bù / degree / adjective linker很hěn /so much这么zhè me를 더합니다: always老是lǎo shìnot不bùhappy高兴gāo xìng.
    2.12

    才 + 数字 — "only" (작은 숫자)

only then / not until才cái (cái)의 두 번째 역할: 숫자 앞에 두면 양이 예상보다 작음을 강조합니다 — "only, just, a mere." "evening晚wǎn(completed / change)了le"를 말하는 only then / not until才cái가 "evening晚wǎn(completed / change)了le"라면, 이 only then / not until才cái는 "just that much"라고 말합니다.

    구조: 才 + Number + Measure Word + Noun · 才 + Verb + Number + MW + Noun

    you你nǐonly才cáitwenty二十岁èr shí suì?

    You're only twenty?

this这家zhè jiāshop店diànonly才cáibeen open开业kāi yèone一个yí geweek星期xīng qī。

This shop has only been open a week.

they他们tā menonly才cáiknown each other认识rèn shithree months三个月sān ge yuè!

They've only known each other three months!

Remember: 하나의 only then / not until才cái, 두 가지 역할 — 시간 앞에서는 것을 evening晚wǎn(completed / change)了le(2.8); 숫자 앞에서는 양을 just that much로 줄입니다. 둘 다 "expected less than"라는 느낌을 공유합니다.

    Watch out

    • only then / not until才cái + verb 뒤의 (completed / change)了le는 선택 사항입니다: only then / not until才cáito come来lái(completed / change)了le两个liǎng gèmoon月yuè ≈ only then / not until才cáito come来lái两个liǎng gèmoon月yuè.
