Build a personal profile from evidence · 基于证据构建个人档案
“Good at everything” tells a reader very little
- Mei is considering education and career options. Her first profile says, “I am hardworking and creative.” Those claims may be true, but they do not tell an adviser what she has done or what she wants to explore.
- This original GAC032-aligned lesson helps you build a profile of interests, strengths and values. A profile is a current account supported by experience, not a test that assigns one permanent career to you. You can change it as you learn more.
“擅长一切”对读者来说信息量极少
- Mei正在考虑教育和职业选择。她的第一份档案写道:“我勤奋且富有创造力。”这些主张或许属实,但并未告诉顾问她做过什么或想探索什么。
- 这是一节与GAC032对齐的原创课程,帮助你构建兴趣、优势和价值观的档案。档案是基于经验支撑的现状描述,而非将你锁定为某一固定职业测试。随着学习的深入,你可以修改它。
Why is “hardworking and creative” alone a weak profile? · 为什么仅凭“勤奋且有创造力”是一个薄弱的档案?
The problem is missing evidence, not the qualities themselves. · 问题是缺少证据,而非特质本身。
Separate interest, strength and value
- An interest is something you want to explore; a strength is something you can currently do with useful evidence. Mei enjoys designing posters, but she needs more practice explaining design choices. Interest and present skill need not be identical.
- A value is something important in a choice, such as helping others, steady working hours or learning new things. Two appealing options may serve different values. Write what matters to you without claiming that everyone should make the same choice.
| Profile part | Mei's example | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| Interest | Wants to understand accessible design | Already qualified as a designer |
| Strength | Revised a poster after testing it with readers | Skilled in every design task |
| Value | Wants information to be usable by different people | One job is the only suitable choice |
Which detail describes a value? · 哪项细节描述了价值观?
A value concerns what matters in a choice. A skill and an interest are different profile parts. · 价值观关乎选择中的重要事项。技能和兴趣是不同的档案组成部分。
Turn an adjective into an example
- Use situation → action → result → limit. Instead of “I am organised,” Mei writes: “For a club display I kept a version list and checked the deadline with three teammates. We submitted the approved files on time. I still need a better method for estimating printing time.”
- Evidence can come from school, home, volunteering or a personal project. Do not invent a role to sound impressive. Describe your own contribution, distinguish it from the team's result and keep private information out of a profile shared with others.
Claim: “I respond to feedback.” Evidence: “Two readers missed the poster's date, so I moved it beside the title and tested the new layout.” Limit: “The second check involved only two readers.”
Order an evidence-based example. · 按顺序排列一个基于证据的例子。
The structure separates context, contribution, outcome and what the example does not establish. · 该结构分离了背景、贡献、结果以及该例子未建立的内容。
Ask for feedback you can use
- Ask a teacher or teammate, “Which action in this example shows a strength, and what should I practise next?” A specific question is more useful than “Am I talented?” Compare feedback with your work rather than accepting every label as fact.
- If people disagree, examine the situations. You may speak confidently in a small group but need rehearsal for a large audience. Record that difference. A strength is easier to develop when the conditions in which it appears are clear.
A personality label or preferred learning method does not prove you cannot learn another skill. Do not use a profile to exclude options before examining their actual demands.
Different feedback from a small-group talk and a large-audience talk must mean one person is lying. · 小组讨论和大听众场合收到的不同反馈必然意味着有人在撒谎。
Performance can differ by context. Compare the situations rather than forcing one global label. · 表现可能因情境而异。应比较情境,而不是强加一个全局标签。
Name a gap without making it your identity
- “I cannot do presentations” closes the task too soon. “I lose my place when speaking without notes” identifies a difficulty. Mei plans a two-minute explanation with three cue words and asks a partner to check whether the order is clear.
- Record a date and a way to review progress. The goal is evidence of improvement, not a promise of instant confidence. Keep an earlier profile so you can see what has changed, including interests that no longer fit.
指出差距但不使其成为你的身份标签
- “我不会做展示”过早地关闭了任务。“没有笔记演讲时我会忘词”指出了具体困难。Mei计划进行两分钟的讲解,准备三个提示词,并请同伴检查顺序是否清晰。
- 记录日期和回顾进度的方式。目标是取得进步的证据,而非承诺立刻获得自信。保留较早的档案以便看到变化,包括不再适用的兴趣。
Which TWO details make a development goal checkable? · 哪两项细节使发展目标的核查成为可能?
A named task and a dated review create observable evidence of progress. · 指定的任务和有日期的复查创造了可观察的进步证据。
Draft a profile an adviser can discuss
- Write 100–120 words: two interests, two strengths with brief examples, two values and one development goal. Mark any claim for which you cannot yet provide an example. A blank is a research task, not a reason to invent evidence.
- Exchange only the parts you are comfortable sharing. Ask your partner to underline evidence and circle unsupported adjectives. Revise one sentence, then keep the profile for the goal and pathway lessons that follow.
A useful profile separates what you enjoy, what you can demonstrate, what matters to you and what you want to develop next.
