Relative clauses (ประโยคขยาย)

- A relative clause
- The woman who lives next door is a doctor.
The student who borrowed my pen has become its permanent guardian.
who, which, that
- who สำหรับคน: the man who called
- which สำหรับสิ่งของ: the book which won
The man ___ called you is my uncle.
“The man” เป็นคน → who.
Relative clause: “The woman who lives next door is a doctor.”
where, when, whose
- where สำหรับสถานที่: the town where I grew up
- when สำหรับเวลา: the day when we met
- whose สำหรับความเป็นเจ้าของ: the writer whose books I love
Which relative pronoun? (relative pronoun
who = คน, which = สิ่ง, where = สถานที่, whose = การเป็นเจ้าของ
That's the girl ___ bag was stolen. (belonging)
การเป็นเจ้าของ → whose: “the girl whose bag …”.
- The film (that) we saw was great.
- แต่ให้คงไว้เมื่อมันเป็น subject: the man who called
“The film (that) we saw was great.”
ได้ — “that” ทำหน้าที่เป็นวัตถุในที่นี้ (we saw it) จึงสามารถตัดทิ้งได้
- ❌ The man which called… → ✓ The man who called… — คนใช้ who
- ❌ The book what I read… → ✓ The book that I read… — what ไม่เคยเป็น relative pronoun
- ❌ The friend who I met him… → ✓ The friend who I met…
who สำหรับคน, which สำหรับสิ่ง, where สำหรับสถานที่, when สำหรับเวลา — that ครอบคลุมทั้งคนและสิ่ง
“That's the town where I grew up.”
ใช่ — where แทนที่ in the town ดังนั้นจึงไม่ต้องใส่ Preposition เพิ่ม
- who (คน), which (สิ่งของ), that (ทั้งสอง)
Relative clause (who / which / that)
I have a friend who speaks four languages.”
