Record deadlines and real commitments
- A semester planner 学期计划表 connects your required work to time you can actually use. Record each assessment deadline 考核截止日期, classes and other fixed commitments before assigning study tasks.
- This is original GAC003-aligned practice, not an official marking rule. Follow your centre's task instructions. A week with no submission can still be busy preparing work due later.
What goes into a semester planner first?
Everything else is planned backwards from the deadlines, so the deadlines must be there first.
Work backwards through the tasks
- Break each outcome into tasks, estimate the time and name what must happen first. A report may need checked data before a draft and returned feedback before revision. Each earlier requirement is a dependency
- A report due at the start of week 10 with three full weeks of work needs a start date 开始日期 no later than the start of week 7. A week number alone can hide the actual day and time; put those details in the real plan.
A report is due at the start of week 10 and needs three full weeks of work. By the start of which week should it begin?
The start of week 7 leaves weeks 7, 8 and 9 before the start-of-week-10 deadline. Real plans also need exact days, task order and available time.
Check capacity as well as dates
- Three one-hour study slots give three hours, not three whole evenings. Add the estimated work and compare it with those slots. Do not book one hour for two different one-hour tasks.
- Mei has a presentation on Thursday, but no Thursday study slot. Rehearsal must happen earlier, after the cue cards are ready. A spare Friday hour cannot rescue rehearsal before Thursday.
A science draft must be sent by Friday in week 7 for comments to return on Monday in week 8. Revision must follow those comments. Starting the draft in week 8 misses that feedback arrangement even if the final report is due on Friday.
Leave room and review the plan
- A buffer 缓冲时间 is spare capacity for delay or revision. Check where it falls: spare time after an endangered deadline may not help. Keep estimates provisional and revise them when actual work takes longer.
- When a slot is lost, identify unfinished tasks and the earliest affected deadline. Ask early about available help or permitted changes. Do not assume an extra evening or an extension has been agreed.
Three deadlines land in the same week. What should you move?
Check whether preparation can start earlier within the available slots. Fixed deadlines stay fixed unless an authorised change is agreed; if the work still will not fit, raise the problem early.
Distinguish urgency from importance
- Urgency concerns how soon action is needed; importance concerns consequences, learning and obligations. A small required quiz can still matter. Assessment weight is one factor, not a complete priority rule.
- Choose the next action using its deadline, consequences, dependencies and available time. At each review record what is completed, what remains and any arrangement you still need to confirm.
A feasible plan fits both the work sequence and the available slots. Completing a colour-coded planner does not establish that the work will fit.
Which statement gives a sound rule for choosing the next study task?
A small task can still matter, and later work may have preparation deadlines. Percentage and due date alone do not show a feasible next action.
A planner that fills every evening of the week is a strong planner.
A full schedule has no buffer for delay or revision. Check the actual time and task sequence rather than assuming every evening is available.
Keep the next decision visible
- Record each agreed change and update the affected tasks. If help or a new slot is still only a request, mark it as unconfirmed so the plan does not rely on it as a fact.
- At the next review compare the actual time used with the estimate. Use that evidence to improve the next plan rather than claiming that one successful week guarantees the whole semester.
