Choose what the question needs
- Selection 取舍 means choosing important information, not deciding to ignore meaning. A question about the main message needs a different focus from a question about a bus time.
- You may miss words during continuous speech. Mark uncertainty and keep following the message; if the missing detail is essential, check it when a pause or replay is available.
Elige lo que la pregunta necesita
- La selección 取舍 significa elegir información importante, no decidir ignorar el significado. Una pregunta sobre el mensaje principal requiere un enfoque distinto al de una pregunta sobre la hora de un autobús.
- Puedes perder palabras durante el habla continua. Marca la incertidumbre y sigue escuchando el mensaje; si el detalle faltante es esencial, verifícalo cuando haya una pausa o una reproducción disponible.
Gist is more than a topic label
- Listening for gist 泛听 asks what the message mainly says. “A museum visit” is a topic; “the visit continues but the entrance changes” is a useful gist.
- Listening for detail asks for a particular fact. Decide which task you have before making notes, and return to the surrounding sentence to check a number’s role.
La idea general es más que una etiqueta de tema
- Escuchar la idea general 泛听 pregunta qué dice principalmente el mensaje. "Una visita al museo" es un tema; "la visita continúa pero cambia la entrada" es una idea general útil.
- Escuchar detalles busca un hecho particular. Decide qué tarea tienes antes de tomar notas y vuelve a la oración circundante para verificar el rol de un número.
You have one listening and a question asking what the talk is mainly about. Which technique fits? · Tienes una escucha y una pregunta que pide de qué trata principalmente la charla. ¿Qué técnica se ajusta?
A main-message question calls for gist: what the talk mainly says. Detail listening has a different target, such as one departure time. · Una pregunta de mensaje principal requiere ideas principales: lo que la charla dice principalmente. La escucha de detalles tiene un objetivo diferente, como una hora de salida específica.
Predict a possibility, not an answer
- Predicting 预测 uses the title or situation to prepare likely vocabulary. Airport delays may involve a gate, departure time or announcement; prediction is preparation rather than proof.
- Check every predicted answer against what you hear. A title saying “Changes to the visit” does not establish that the entire trip is cancelled.
Predice una posibilidad, no una respuesta
- Predecir 预测 usa el título o la situación para preparar vocabulario probable. Los retrasos en aeropuertos pueden implicar una puerta, hora de salida o anuncio; la predicción es preparación, no prueba.
- Verifica cada respuesta predicha contra lo que escuchas. Un título que dice "Cambios en la visita" no establece que todo el viaje esté cancelado.
Put these in the order that gets the most out of one listening. · Ordena estos pasos para aprovechar al máximo una única escucha.
Read the task and prepare a focus before playback, follow the message while recording relevant details, then use the permitted follow-up to check gaps. Prediction does not establish an answer. · Lea la tarea y prepare un enfoque antes de la reproducción, siga el mensaje mientras registra detalles relevantes, luego use el seguimiento permitido para verificar espacios en blanco. La predicción no establece una respuesta.
A talk is announced as being about airport delays. Which words are worth loading in advance? Choose all that apply. · Una charla se anuncia como tratante sobre retrasos en aeropuertos. ¿Qué palabras vale la pena cargar con antelación? Selecciona todas las que correspondan.
Prepare likely vocabulary related to airport delays. Then verify the actual message; a likely topic word is not a confirmed answer. · Prepare vocabulario probable relacionado con retrasos en aeropuertos. Luego verifique el mensaje real; una palabra de tema probable no es una respuesta confirmada.
Use surrounding evidence
- Context clues 上下文线索 include explanations, contrasts and consequences. In “The train was cancelled, so we took the bus instead”, the alternative transport supports “the train did not run”.
- A clue can narrow a meaning without explaining every unfamiliar word. If more than one interpretation remains possible, keep the uncertainty and seek another clue or clarification.
Usa evidencia circundante
- Las pistas contextuales 上下文线索 incluyen explicaciones, contrastes y consecuencias. En "El tren fue cancelado, así que tomamos el autobús en cambio", el transporte alternativo apoya "el tren no circuló".
- Una pista puede acotar un significado sin explicar cada palabra desconocida. Si quedan posibles más de una interpretación, mantén la incertidumbre y busca otra pista o aclaración.
Recover without losing the next point
- Use a short question mark in your notes for a missed word and continue. A later explanation may help, but it is not guaranteed to repeat the missing information.
- Avoid turning each spoken sentence into a long translation while new speech continues. After the talk, use the permitted transcript, replay or speaker check to repair important gaps.
Recupera sin perder el siguiente punto
- Usa un signo de interrogación corto en tus notas para una palabra perdida y continúa. Una explicación posterior puede ayudar, pero no está garantizado que repita la información faltante.
- Evita convertir cada oración hablada en una larga traducción mientras continúe el nuevo discurso. Después de la charla, usa la transcripción permitida, la reproducción o la verificación del hablante para reparar lagunas importantes.
"The train was cancelled, so we took the bus instead and arrived two hours late." What does cancelled mean here? · "El tren fue cancelado, así que tomamos el autobús en su lugar y llegamos dos horas tarde." ¿Qué significa "cancelado" aquí?
The bus was used instead of the train, which supports the meaning that the train did not run. Use the stated consequence rather than inventing another definition. · Se usó el autobús en lugar del tren, lo que apoya el significado de que el tren no operó. Use la consecuencia declarada en lugar de inventar otra definición.
You should stop following a continuous talk whenever you miss a word, until you have translated that word. · Debería dejar de seguir una charla continua cada vez que pierda una palabra, hasta haber traducido esa palabra.
Stopping on each unknown word can lose later information. Mark the uncertainty, continue following the message and check important gaps at an appropriate pause or permitted replay. · Detenerse en cada palabra desconocida puede hacer perder información posterior. Marque la incertidumbre, continúe siguiendo el mensaje y verifique espacios en blanco importantes en una pausa apropiada o una reproducción permitida.
Write one English sentence saying what you will do next time you miss a word while listening. · Escribe una oración en inglés describiendo lo que harás la próxima vez que no entienda una palabra mientras escuchas.
Example: “I will mark the gap and keep following the message, then check an important missing detail afterwards.” A later sentence may help, but it need not repeat the lost word. · Ejemplo: “Marcaré el espacio en blanco y seguiré el mensaje, luego verificaré un detalle importante faltante después”. Una oración posterior puede ayudar, pero no necesita repetir la palabra perdida.
Prepare a focus, then verify predictions against the message. Context can help, but missing information may still require a later check.
Prepara un enfoque, luego verifica predicciones contra el mensaje. El contexto puede ayudar, pero la información perdida aún puede requerir una verificación posterior.
Title: “Changes to Saturday’s visit”. Message: “The visit is still going ahead, but use the hill entrance.” A cancellation prediction is contradicted by the message.
Título: "Cambios en la visita del sábado". Mensaje: "La visita sigue adelante, pero usa la entrada de la colina". Una predicción de cancelación es contradicha por el mensaje.
