Decision Mathematics 1 (D1, paper WDM01/01, 1 hour 30 minutes, 75 marks, first assessment June 2019) is the discrete option of the IAL: P1–P2 are assumed, and every method is an ALGORITHM — a finite list of exact instructions. No formula booklet entries beyond the basics: the marks are for executing procedures precisely and stating results in the required form. This reference covers sorting and packing algorithms, minimum spanning trees, shortest paths, the Chinese postman and travelling salesman problems, critical path analysis and linear programming.
House rules for algorithm answers:
| Task | Required form |
|---|---|
| sorting | list the list after EACH pass (or pivot choices for quick sort) |
| bin packing | name the algorithm (first-fit, first-fit decreasing, full-bin) and show each placement |
| graph algorithms | state the order edges/nodes are chosen; show final values (labels, total weight) |
| route inspection | list the odd nodes, the pairings and their weights, before totalling |
| linear programming | define variables, objective and EVERY constraint with non-negativity |
