是否 (whether or not)
IntroducedA formal reply must answer either way
- A form asks the recipient to confirm whether they agree.
- please请confirm确认you您whether是否agree同意。 — Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses.
Locate the pattern in real examples
- whether是否 (whether or not): Excuse me, may I ask...?请问you您whether是否satisfied满意?; we / us我们at / in在to discuss讨论whether是否to need需要to reschedule改期。
- Read the whole clause before choosing a translation. The examples show the pattern in use; the context below determines what the speaker claims.
A form asks the recipient to confirm whether they agree. What does 请确认您是否同意。 communicate?
Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses. 是否 goes before the predicate. In this direct request, it already frames the yes-or-no issue; adding 吗 is unnecessary. 是否 does not imply agreement.
Follow the speaker
please请confirm确认you您whether是否agree同意。
- In the opening situation: please请confirm确认you您whether是否agree同意。
- Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses.
Using the pattern named in this lesson: …whether you agree: 请确认您 ____ 同意。
是否 + Verb / Adj = whether or not: 是否同意.
是否 embeds a yes/no question inside a sentence.
Yes — 确认是否可行 (confirm whether it's feasible).
Check the limit of the explanation
- whether是否 goes before the predicate.
- In this direct request, it already frames the yes-or-no issue; adding (yes/no ?)吗 is unnecessary. whether是否 does not imply agreement.
The request assumes that the recipient has already agreed.
是否 goes before the predicate. In this direct request, it already frames the yes-or-no issue; adding 吗 is unnecessary. 是否 does not imply agreement. Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses.
Repair the form before interpreting it
- The form you您agree同意whether是否 needs repair here. Write you您whether是否agree同意 instead; keep the word or frame in its demonstrated order.
- Form and meaning are separate checks. After the repair, explain the sentence in its situation rather than treating a familiar translation as a universal rule.
Rewrite the demonstrated repair exactly: 您同意是否
The demonstrated form is 您是否同意. Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses.
Keep the distinction
- Both agreement and disagreement are possible responses. Check the relevant speaker, time or group in the surrounding context.
- whether是否 goes before the predicate. In this direct request, it already frames the yes-or-no issue; adding (yes/no ?)吗 is unnecessary. whether是否 does not imply agreement.

是否 is the formal version of…
是否满意 = whether (you are) satisfied; formal 是不是.
A form asks the recipient to confirm whether they agree. Close the examples. Say a Mandarin response, then write it in Chinese. Explain briefly in English what the lesson’s pattern adds. Compare with the model, then change one detail and try again.
This is supported productive practice. Compare meaning and structure; your answer need not copy the model. A partner or teacher must hear the spoken response to comment on pronunciation.
