When the choices fuse
- Synthesis 综合 means the three components fuse — the material and process choices are the idea (CED 2.B).
- Ask of each work: could this idea exist in any other medium? If yes, go deeper.

- Synthesis cannot be added at the end — it grows from experimenting early with related materials.
- One sentence of written evidence should name the link: "I used X because the idea needed Y."
- If you cannot name the link, the synthesis is not there yet.

A beautiful idea drawn in whatever material was nearest is not synthesis — the medium is interchangeable. Synthesis is when swapping the material would change the meaning, not just the look.
A drawing about erosion, made by erosion: chalk on pavement, photographed as rain slowly dissolves it across a day. Chalk, weather, and time cannot be swapped out without losing the idea. That is synthesis.
Synthesis is material + process + idea fused so tightly that swapping the medium changes the meaning. It is the top rubric row, grows from early experimentation, and you should be able to name the link in one sentence.
