Five quantity-and-scope tools. The lian dou repeated verb, didn't even. Wei er, for the sake of. Renhe dou, any whatsoever. Ji you, both and. And locations with zai plus shang, li, xia or pangbian. The golden thread: most of them live or die on a partner rule, the verb repeat, the goal-first order, no de, matching halves, and the position word after the place. Learn the lock, not just the word.
Lian plus the verb plus dou plus bu or mei, with the same verb repeated, stresses that the most basic action didn't even happen. Zhege ren wo lian jian dou mei jian guo, I've never even met this person. The verb repeat is what does the work; it puts the action on trial and finds it didn't happen at all. Lian jian dou mei jian guo works, lian dou mei jian guo does not, because the repeat is the engine. Add jiu after for without even: ta lian shuo dou bu shuo jiu zou le, he left without even saying a word.
A roommate borrowed your charger again, and the frame supplies the complaint. Build the trial: lian wen dou bu wen, without even asking. Add the outcome: jiu yong wo de dongxi, and then uses my things. The doubled wen maxes the indignation, which is why complaints and rants love this frame. Say it with feeling; this is not a quiet pattern.
Wei A er B ties a purpose to the action done for it: women wei mengxiang er nuli, we strive for our dreams. The goal comes first, er elegantly bridges the why to the what, and the frame is formal, with weile as the everyday swap: buyao weile bieren er huo, don't live for other people. Say what you study for: wo wei weilai er nuli xuexi, I study hard for the future.
Renhe is any whatsoever, a stronger and more formal sweep than shei or shenme. Two locks hold it. First, it takes no de: renhe ren works, renhe de ren does not. Second, it always wants its dou or ye to complete the range, because a bare renhe ren is left hanging. Renhe ren dou buneng shuofu ta, no one at all can persuade him. Set a study-room rule with it: renhe ren dou buneng zai zheli dasheng shuohua, no one whatsoever may talk loudly in here.
Ji A you B stacks two qualities that both hold. Zhe jia canting ji pianyi you haochi, this restaurant is both cheap and tasty. Ta zuo shiqing ji kuai you hao, he does things both quickly and well. The style rule: A and B should match, same length, same type, which is why ji pianyi you haochi sings and mismatched pairs limp. It is the dressed-up cousin of you you; ji opens with a bow tie, and you follows. Review a phone with it: zhege shouji ji piaoliang you shiyong, both beautiful and practical.
English says on the table; Chinese builds the mirror: zai zhuozi shang, at table-on. The position word comes after the place noun, and the table shows all four: zai zhuozi shang, zai bao li, zai chuang xia, zai wo jia pangbian. Your phone in the bag: ni de shouji zai bao li ma. And big places, countries and cities, take no position word at all: zai Zhongguo is right, zai Zhongguo li is wrong. A bare zai zhuozi is incomplete; the shang or li anchors it.
Pause and check both. First, the repeated jian makes it work; the repeat is the engine of even. Second, zai Zhongguo, because big places take no position word. The remaining review items: in wei mengxiang er nuli the goal comes first, renhe takes its dou, and the halves in ji you must match. Five tools, five locks, and each lock is one mark on the exam.
