  本 + nom — "ceci, son propre"

  Dans le chinois formel écrit, root本běn signifie "ceci (même) / le propre de" — toujours du côté de l'orateur. Il s'associe à des noms monosyllabiques (person人rén, (bound form) school校xiào, market市shì, country国guó, week周zhōu, moon月yuè, grain年nián, next in sequence次cì) et quelques polysyllabiques (company公司gōng sī, to organize组织zǔ zhī). I本人běn rén = "moi, moi-même" (fréquent sur les CV).

  Structure : 本 + Noun

  • Il est autoréférentiel et formel — pour un simple "ceci", utilisez this这zhè.

  Mot + 性 — "-ness, -ity" (une qualité)

  Le suffixe nature性xìng transforme un mot en une qualité abstraite — "-ness, -ity, -ability" (aussi "-ic"). Comme to make into化huà, c'est un suffixe productif : possibility可能性kě néng xìng, importance重要性zhòng yào xìng, 科学性kē xué xìng, feasibility可行性kě xíng xìng.

  Structure : Word + 性
