Plan a talk for an actual task
- Identify the audience, purpose and allowed time before choosing points. A short class proposal needs evidence and a next action, not a claim that a decision has already been approved.
- Check the task’s own criteria. These practice strategies do not establish an official GAC score or guarantee that one speaking style always scores higher.
Say the route through the talk
- An introduction 引言 names the purpose and points. The body 主体 develops them; the conclusion 结论 states the main message or proposed next step.
- Use a transition 过渡 to connect ideas: “That shows the present demand; next I will explain what still needs checking.” A numbered list alone does not supply the reasoning.
Put the parts of a short formal presentation in order.
Saying the structure in the introduction is what lets an audience follow the rest.
Write the opening sentence of a three-minute talk about your school, naming the three things you will cover.
Naming the points is what makes it a plan. Promising three things without saying what they are does not help the audience.
Use notes that support delivery
- Put useful keywords 关键词 and evidence on cards rather than copying every sentence to a slide. Notes should help you find your place and respond to a listener.
- A short script can help rehearse difficult wording. Check that you can explain the meaning when looking up; memorisation or script use alone does not determine a mark.
What should be on your cards? · ¿Qué debería haber en tus tarjetas?
Keywords can prompt the main points and evidence without filling each card with a complete script. Check in rehearsal that the notes support an understandable talk.
Measure the actual rehearsal
- Rehearse 排练 aloud with a timer. Written length does not establish duration; pauses, explanations and delivery affect the actual run.
- If you overrun, remove repeated wording while keeping necessary evidence and limits, then time another run. Rushing is not a reliable repair for an overloaded talk.
Your rehearsal runs 90 seconds over. What is the right fix?
Remove repeated or unnecessary wording while retaining the required meaning, then time another spoken run. Speaking faster alone is not a reliable repair for too much content.
Prepare questions and transitions
- Prepare likely questions 提问 about your evidence, method and limits. If a fact is unknown, say what needs checking instead of inventing an answer.
- Signpost a conclusion and invite a response. Check whether a listener can restate your main proposal; a polished slide is not evidence that the message was understood.
Prepara preguntas y transiciones
Which phrases signpost a talk? Choose all that apply.
“I will cover three things”, “The reason for this is” and “To sum up” locate the talk’s structure. “It is very interesting” gives an opinion without indicating the next section.
A presentation connects purpose, evidence, limits and a next action. Rehearse the actual talk; a script’s length does not prove its duration.
Opening: “I will describe the sixteen poll responses, explain what they cannot establish, and propose a staffing check.” This introduces a route without claiming approved new opening hours.
