What this topic teaches
Your first Chinese conversation: introducing yourself, asking who someone is, and the four polite words that open every exchange. One tiny word — (yes/no ?)吗 — turns any statement into a yes/no question, and it will follow you for the rest of your Chinese life.
Introducing Yourself
I / me我variant of 叫叫林安。 (Wǒ jiào Lín Ān.) — My name is Lin An.
I / me我to be / is是student学生。 (Wǒ shì xuésheng.) — I am a student.
variant of 叫叫 introduces a name — "I'm called…". to be / is是 links who you are — student, teacher, doctor. Two different jobs, two different words.
you你to be / is是teacher老师(yes/no ?)吗? (Nǐ shì lǎoshī ma?) — Are you a teacher?
Adding (yes/no ?)吗 to the end turns a statement into a yes/no question — nothing else moves. I / me我to be / is是teacher老师 "I am a teacher" becomes you你to be / is是teacher老师(yes/no ?)吗 "Are you a teacher?"
Try it. Introduce yourself twice, once with each verb: I / me我variant of 叫叫……,I / me我to be / is是……。 Say it to your desk, then to a classmate.
Asking What, Not Yes-or-No
you你variant of 叫叫what什么name (of a person or thing)名字? (Nǐ jiào shénme míngzi?) — What's your name?
A question-word question (what什么 "what", who谁 "who") already asks for information — do not add (yes/no ?)吗 to it. (yes/no ?)吗 is for yes/no only.
The negative uses not不: I / me我no不是teacher老师 (wǒ bú shì lǎoshī) — I'm not a teacher. not不 slides in front of to be / is是, and nothing else changes.
The Four Polite Words
| Palabra | Cuándo usarla |
|---|---|
| hello你好 (nǐ hǎo) | Saludo |
| to thank谢谢 (xièxie) | Agradecimiento |
| I'm sorry对不起 (duìbuqǐ) | Disculpa |
| goodbye再见 (zàijiàn) | Despedida |
Practícalo. Ejecuta el ciclo completo con un compañero: hello你好 → you你variant of 叫叫what什么name (of a person or thing)名字? → to thank谢谢 → goodbye再见.
Tenga cuidado
- El pinyin te ayuda a escuchar los sonidos, pero la prueba lee caracteres — sigue aprendiendo ambos juntos.
- En el juego de roles, inventa un nombre e identidad; nunca uses datos de contacto reales.
Repaso
- ¿Qué verbo introduce un nombre — variant of 叫叫 o to be / is是?
- ¿Cómo conviertes I / me我to be / is是teacher老师 en una pregunta?
- ¿Puede you你variant of 叫叫what什么name (of a person or thing)名字? llevar (yes/no ?)吗?
- ¿Qué palabra cortés dices al despedirte?
(Respuestas: 1. variant of 叫叫 introduce un nombre; to be / is是 vincula la identidad. 2. Añade (yes/no ?)吗: you你to be / is是teacher老师(yes/no ?)吗? 3. No — las preguntas con palabras interrogativas ya solicitan información. 4. goodbye再见.)
