Retrieve and revisit the material
- Active recall 主动回忆 means trying to retrieve an answer before looking it up. Spaced practice 间隔复习 places practice across separate sessions. Check answers and plan a later review rather than repeating errors unchecked.
- Research with prose passages found benefits from testing on delayed recall, while repeated study did better on the immediate test. Spacing research also shows that timing matters. These findings support trying retrieval and planned reviews; they do not establish that discomfort itself causes learning or that every task needs one fixed interval. Retrieval study · Spacing review.
Which activity is an example of active recall? ·
Retrieving before looking is active recall. Check and correct the response afterwards; this definition is not a guarantee that one method wins for every task.
Use notes as material for a check
- The Cornell method 康奈尔笔记法 separates notes, cue questions and a summary. Try answering a cue without looking at the notes, then compare the response with the source.
- Write a summary in your own words and check that it retains the main relationships. A completed summary box alone does not establish understanding, and no single box is guaranteed to do most of the learning.
Which action checks whether your summary represents the course material accurately? ·
Writing and comparison make the summary checkable. Filling a box alone does not establish correctness or identify a universally best part of note-taking. ·
Correct the response and review later
- A difficult recall attempt can expose what you need to revisit. Check errors against reliable course material and practise a corrected response; difficulty alone is not evidence that the method is working.
- Choose a later review that fits the task and available time. Record what is retained and what still needs work. Do not claim that one successful answer establishes mastery of every related question.
Follow the CV brief
- A CV records relevant education, experience, skills and achievements. Follow the application's actual length, date order, format and requested fields rather than assuming one universal national convention.
- Describe your own contribution and result accurately. Include qualifications you hold, distinguish team contributions and avoid classmates' private details. If a brief excludes photographs, follow that rule.
A fictional application requests a one-page CV with education in reverse date order, skills, achievements and relevant experience, and excludes photographs. Which entries meet this brief? Choose all that apply.
Education, skills and relevant experience meet the supplied brief. Its explicit rule excludes photographs; this is not a universal rule for every country or application.
Connect an interest to evidence
- A personal statement connects your interest, relevant experience and a reasoned direction. Follow the requested questions, length and authorship rules.
- A specific activity gives the reader something to assess, but naming it does not prove every claim about your ability. Explain what you did, what you learned and the limits of the evidence.
Compare two fictional openings
- “I have always loved computers” states an interest without an example. “I wrote a program to sort my music list; testing a larger list made me investigate why it ran slowly” names an action and a learning question.
- The second offers more specific evidence if the account is true. It does not establish a professional qualification or require every statement to use the same opening style.
Assuming the accounts are truthful, which opening gives specific evidence of a computing interest? ·
The program and observed problem provide a specific example to discuss. They do not prove a general qualification; the statement still needs to meet the actual brief.
Write the first sentence of a personal statement, using one concrete thing you have actually done. ·
Evidence beats adjectives: the thing you did says more about your interest than any claim about it.
Keep the account yours
- Use your own truthful experience and permitted help. Do not invent a project or present another person's sentence as your personal account. Keep notes that let you explain the example.
- Review the statement against the actual brief. Remove unsupported claims and borrowed wording where it does not belong, then check clarity and accuracy before submission.
Try recall and planned reviews with checked answers. Keep CV and statement claims truthful and follow the actual application brief.
