Read the course's actual expectations
- University courses differ in attendance, preparation and assessment rules. Read the course handbook and task brief rather than assuming that nobody checks progress or that every course works like school.
- This lesson uses original GAC003-aligned practice. Its examples help you plan; they do not replace a university's published requirements or your centre's instructions.
Prepare for the teaching format
- A lecture 讲座 often presents material to a larger group; a seminar 研讨课 often centres on discussion; a tutorial 辅导课 often gives closer guidance on work. Names and participation arrangements vary by course.
- Check the preparation required for each session. Read the assigned material, bring questions or draft work as requested, and follow the local arrangements for asking questions. Quiet participation alone does not diagnose a student's understanding.
Match these example course arrangements to their teaching format. ·
These are examples of common arrangements, not universal participation rules. Check what the actual course requires you to prepare and bring. · 这些是常见安排的示例,并非 universal participation rules( universal participation rules)。
Know what your record and work show
- A transcript 成绩单 records academic results. Where a record uses a grade point average GPA summarises grades under that system's rules. Read its scale and requirements rather than treating the number as a universal admissions guarantee.
- Academic integrity 学术诚信 means following the rules for honest work, permitted help and acknowledging sources. Check the task's actual rules; copying a paragraph with a citation does not automatically make it acceptable submitted work.
A sample academic transcript lists modules, grades and a GPA. Which description matches that record?
This sample records module grades and their GPA summary. The scale and its admissions significance must be checked in the relevant system.
Ask a specific question early
- Ask when an instruction is unclear and there is still time to use the answer. A focused question about data, structure or a criterion is easier to act on than “I do not understand anything”.
- For example: “Could I check whether the report needs the raw data or only the summary table?” Keep the answer and update the plan. Asking for clarification does not by itself establish that you are failing.
Asking for clarification in week two by itself proves that a student is failing. ·
A clarification request identifies an unresolved instruction, not a grade. Asking while time remains may help the student use the answer. ·
Write one email sentence asking a teacher to clarify what a report needs. ·
Example: "Could I check whether the report should include the raw data, or only the summary table?" One specific question is easy to answer. · 例如:“Could I check whether the report should include the raw data, or only the summary table?”
Plan for an answer, not a guarantee
- An early question can leave more time to revise, but a teacher's availability and the needed work still matter. Check how the course offers help and record any answer or appointment that is confirmed.
- If the deadline is near, state what is already done and the precise unresolved issue. Do not assume a later deadline, extra help or approval to submit unfinished work has been granted.
Check progress against evidence
- Silence from a teacher does not establish that work is correct, incorrect or unread. Review the actual criteria, feedback and completed work rather than guessing why no comment arrived.
- Record what you can demonstrate and what still needs a check. A useful next question points to the unresolved requirement and the evidence you already have.
Use the actual course brief, bring the required preparation and ask about a precise unresolved point. Silence and a session name do not establish the rules or the quality of your work.
Your teacher has said nothing about your progress. What does that mean? ·
There are several possible reasons for no comment. Check the task criteria and available feedback, then ask about a specific unresolved point. ·
