只要 … ，就 … (as long as)

Small daily steps

• A classmate worries about failing the speaking test. You think daily practice is enough.
• as long as只要zhǐ yàoevery day每天měi tiānto practice练习liàn xíhalf of sth半个bàn gèhour小时xiǎo shí，you你nǐthen就jiùdefinitely一定yí dìngcan能néngto pass through通过tōng guò。 — "As long as you practise half an hour every day, you'll definitely pass."

as long as只要zhǐ yào A，(Subject) then就jiù B

• as long as只要zhǐ yào = "as long as, provided that": A is enough to bring about B.
• then就jiù follows the subject of the result clause: as long as只要zhǐ yàoyou你nǐcome来lái，I我wǒthen就jiùvery很hěnhappy高兴gāo xìng.

as long as只要zhǐ yàoyou你nǐcome来lái，I我wǒthen就jiùvery很hěnhappy高兴gāo xìng。

Easy conditions, firm results

• as long as只要zhǐ yàothere is有yǒuinternet网络wǎng luò，at在zàianywhere哪儿nǎr(all)都dōucan能néngwork工作gōng zuò。 — "As long as there's internet, you can work anywhere."
• as long as只要zhǐ yàoyou你nǐnot不bùvariant of 说说shuō，then就jiùnot / haven't没méiperson人rénto know知道zhī dào。 — "As long as you don't tell, nobody will know."

Enough, not only

as long as只要zhǐ yào…then就jiù versus only if只有zhǐ yǒu…only then才cái

• as long as只要zhǐ yàothere is有yǒua ticket票piào，then就jiùcan能néngget in进去jìn qu — a ticket is all you need.
• only if只有zhǐ yǒuthere is有yǒua ticket票piào，talent才能cái néngget in进去jìn qu。 — "Only with a ticket can you get in" (no ticket, no entry).

only if只有zhǐ yǒuhave有yǒua ticket票piào，only then才cáican能néngget in进去jìn qu。
