如果 … 的话 (if …)

A trip that depends on the weather

• You are planning a trip to the Great Wall but the forecast is uncertain.
• if如果rú guǒtomorrow明天míng tiānrain下雨xià yǔif的话de huà，we / us我们wǒ menthen就jiùto be at home在家zài jiāto see看kànmovie电影diàn yǐng。 — "If it rains tomorrow, we'll stay home and watch a film."

if如果rú guǒ + condition + if的话de huà

• if如果rú guǒ…if的话de huà = "if …". if的话de huà closes the condition; either word may be dropped in speech.
• if如果rú guǒrain下雨xià yǔ, rain下雨xià yǔif的话de huà, if如果rú guǒrain下雨xià yǔif的话de huà all mean "if it rains".

rain下雨xià yǔif的话de huà，I我wǒthen就jiùnot不búgo去qù了le。

Offers and advice

• you你nǐhave有yǒuquestions问题wèn tíif的话de huà，can可以kě yǐask问wènI我wǒ。 — "If you have any questions, you can ask me."
• if如果rú guǒyou你nǐrope累lèi(completed / change)了leif的话de huà，then就jiùrest休息xiū xī(used after a verb) give it…一下yī xià。 — "If you're tired, have a rest."

you你nǐhave有yǒuquestions问题wèn tíif的话de huà，can可以kě yǐask问wènme我wǒ。

The condition comes first

if要是yào shi in speech

• if要是yào shi is a spoken "if": if要是yào shiyou你nǐunexpectedly不想bù xiǎnggo去qùif的话de huà，then就jiùdon't别biégo去qù(completed / change)了le。
• It works with if的话de huà and then就jiù exactly like if如果rú guǒ.

if要是yào shiyou你nǐdon't不bùwant to想xiǎnggo去qù，then就jiùdon't别biégo去qù了le。
