It really is that hot
- You step outside in July and it is much hotter than you expected.
- today今天how怎么so这么to warm up热！ — "How come it is so hot today!" so这么 points to the degree you are feeling right now.
so这么 / so那么 + Adjective
- so这么 + Adj = "so …" about something here and now; so那么 + Adj = "so …" about something over there, earlier or mentioned.
- Like degree / adjective linker很, they stand directly before the adjective: so这么expensive贵, so那么far远.
this这(measure word)件clothes衣服so这么expensive贵。
You are holding a heavy suitcase: 你的箱子怎么____重？

The suitcase is right here, so 这么 + 重 = “so heavy”.
Near and far
- Holding the shoes: this这双鞋so这么cheap便宜！ — "These shoes are so cheap!"
- Talking about a city you visited: there那儿(modifier / structural particle)的winter冬天so那么cold冷，you你how怎么to put up with受得了？ — "The winters there are so cold; how do you stand it?"
you你home家so那么far远，every day每天how怎么come来？
A friend describes her hometown far away. Which fits best? “The mountains there are so beautiful.”

那么 + Adj, with no extra 很; 那么 suits a distant place.
Keep one degree word
- Do not add degree / adjective linker很 as well: so这么to warm up热, not so这么degree / adjective linker很to warm up热, since so这么 already gives the degree.
- Place so这么 or so那么 before the adjective, not after it: so那么far远, not far远so那么.
这么很热 is correct because 这么 and 很 both mean “very”.

这么 already supplies the degree, so 很 is left out: 这么热.
Also in comparisons
- so那么 often sharpens a not as没有 comparison: I我not as没有him他so那么tall高。 — "I am not as tall as him."
- so这么 can also go before a verb of degree: you你how怎么so这么to like喜欢variant of 吃吃hot (spicy)辣(modifier / structural particle)的？
