Đã giới thiệu| English | Ý nghĩa |
|---|---|
| text completion/tekst kəmˈpliːʃn/ | A Verbal question type in which you fill one to three blanks in a passage. |
| sentence equivalence/ˈsentəns ɪˈkwɪvələns/ | A Verbal question type in which you choose two answers that give sentences of the same meaning. |
Fill the blank from the logic
- "Although the senator was known for her ___, she spoke for hours at the hearing." Choices include loquacity, taciturnity, eloquence.
- "Although" signals a contrast with speaking for hours, so the blank needs a word meaning quiet: taciturnity. GRE completion questions reward logic first, vocabulary second.
Two question types
- Text completion 填空题: one to three blanks; each blank has its own column of choices, and only the whole completed passage counts.
- Sentence equivalence 句子等价题: one blank, six choices; pick two that each produce a coherent sentence with the same meaning.
Predict before you look
- Find the clue (a contrast word, a cause, a restatement after a colon) and write your own word for the blank.
- Then pick the choice closest to your prediction. "Because the evidence was ___, the jury could not reach a verdict" → predict unclear: equivocal.
"The professor's lectures were notably ___: she never used one word where three would do." The restatement after the colon (many words) → prolix (wordy). Not succinct, which reverses the meaning.
Which way does the clue point?
Use clue words to decide the blank's direction.
“Although the senator was known for her ___, she spoke for hours at the hearing.” Which word fits?

The blank must go against the clue.
Sentence equivalence pairs
- The two answers must both fit and agree: ephemeral and fleeting (both "short-lived").
- A pair of synonyms that does not fit the sentence is a trap; so is one fitting word without a partner.
Sentence equivalence: “Fame on social media is often ___, vanishing within weeks.” Select TWO.
Độ khó 2/5 · 140 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
Ephemeral and fleeting both mean short-lived and fit “vanishing within weeks”.
Common traps
- Reversing the direction: choosing a positive word where the clue requires a negative one.
- Choosing a synonym pair that does not fit the blank's logic.
In sentence equivalence, any two synonyms among the choices are correct.

They must also fit the sentence's logic.
