A useful situation
- Your goal: Say where you are going, when, and how.
- Before you start, recall the words you already know. New words below are here to help, not a list you must master before continuing.
Words you will use
- go去 qù — go. I / me我go去school学校。
- train火车 huǒchē — train. I / me我travel by / sit坐train火车。
- travel by / sit坐 zuò — travel by / sit. I / me我travel by / sit坐train火车go去Shanghai上海。
- Shanghai上海 Shànghǎi — Shanghai. I / me我tomorrow明天go去Shanghai上海。
- eight o’clock八点 bā diǎn — eight o’clock. I / me我eight o’clock八点go去。
Match each word with its meaning in this unit.
Use the example sentences to check each word’s meaning in context.
Build the meaning
- Put time before the main action in this simple pattern: I / me我tomorrow明天eight o’clock八点go去Shanghai上海. Mandarin does not add an English-style future verb ending here.
- travel by / sit坐train火车 describes transport; go去Shanghai上海 gives the destination. Asking go去where哪里 needs a place; asking how / why怎么go去 needs a method.
at / in在Shanghai上海 gives a location; go去Shanghai上海 gives a destination. Do not answer go去where哪里 with only travel by / sit坐train火车.
Complete “Where are you going?”: 你去____？
去哪里 asks the destination.
Listen for a fresh detail
- Listen before revealing the script.
- Replay if you need to. This is practice: if playback is unavailable, use the script as reading and return to listening on a device with Mandarin playback.
Show the listening script and meaning
I / me我tomorrow明天九点travel by / sit坐train火车go去Shanghai上海。
Tomorrow I take a train to Shanghai at nine.
What is the departure time?
九点 gives nine o’clock; no afternoon is stated.

Speak, write, and review
- Ask where a partner is going tomorrow and how. Give your own fictional departure plan.
- Record yourself privately or work with a partner. First try without the model, then compare the meaning and structure; a text checker cannot assess your pronunciation.
A: you你tomorrow明天go去where哪里？ B: Shanghai上海。 A: how / why怎么go去？ B: travel by / sit坐train火车。
- Write a travel plan with a time, method, and destination. Change the time from the reading.
- Tomorrow, recall two words and repeat the task with one detail changed. Revisit it after a few days; return sooner to the part that felt difficult.
Say where you are going, when, and how. Use the examples as support, then try a fresh version. Completing these exercises records practice, not a guarantee of mastery.
