Use digital media to strengthen an oral presentation · Usar mídia digital para fortalecer uma apresentação oral
A slide can look impressive and still hide your point
- A fictional communications team reports whether a new event notice was understood. A slide filled with the entire report makes listeners choose between reading and listening. Relevant media should clarify the point you speak about.
- This GAC014-aligned lesson develops a short academic presentation. It uses invented data and a static slide plan, not a claimed real evaluation. Classroom rehearsal does not supply reviewed listening audio or an automatic pronunciation score.
Choose the message before the slide design
- Your central point is “The revised notice may be clearer, but the two groups differed.” Build three slides: question and change, result table, limitation and next check. Each slide supports a specific spoken move rather than serving as a script.
- The fictional first group has eight of twelve correct responses; the second has ten of twelve. Keep both denominators on the slide. The groups saw different versions on different days, so the result does not isolate the design change.
| Notice version | Correct responses | Group context |
|---|---|---|
| First | 8 of 12 | First-day volunteers |
| Revised | 10 of 12 | Different second-day volunteers |
Escolha a mensagem antes do design do slide
| Versão do aviso | Respostas corretas | Contexto do grupo |
|---|---|---|
| Primeira | 8 de 12 | Voluntários do primeiro dia |
| Revisada | 10 de 12 | Voluntários diferentes do segundo dia |
How many more correct responses were recorded in the second group?
10 − 8 = 2 people. Both groups contained twelve volunteers. · 10 − 8 = 2 pessoas. Ambos os grupos continham doze voluntários.
Which slide plan best supports the argument? · Qual plano de slide melhor apoia o argumento?
The sequence links purpose, evidence and its interpretation. · A sequência liga propósito, evidência e sua interpretação.
Make the evidence legible and accessible
- Use a simple table with clear headings, readable type and good contrast. Avoid an image-only table when selectable text is available. Explain the important result aloud so a listener need not read every cell to follow the argument.
- If you choose a chart, label units and counts and use an honest scale. Colour alone should not distinguish groups. Include a text description where the platform supports it and use licensed or self-authored media rather than copying an unrelated photograph.
Torne as evidências legíveis e acessíveis
Which TWO media choices improve access? · Quais DUAS escolhas de mídia melhoram o acesso?
Readable structure and spoken explanation help the audience follow the same evidence. · Estrutura legível e explicação falada ajudam a audiência a acompanhar as mesmas evidências.
Connect the visual to the spoken explanation
- Point to the relevant row, name the result, then explain its limit. “The revised group answered ten of twelve correctly, compared with eight of twelve; different participants and days limit a causal conclusion.” Pause after the contrast so listeners can locate both rows.
- Do not turn your back and read every line. Use brief speaker notes for transitions and rehearse the technology before class. Prepare a static backup that contains the essential data if the presentation software or network fails.
The different-day groups isolate the effect of changing the notice.
Participants and days differ, so other explanations remain possible. · Participantes e dias diferem, então outras explicações permanecem possíveis.
Rehearse timing and respond to questions
- Plan a three-minute talk: thirty seconds for the question, sixty for changes, sixty for results and limits, thirty for the next check. Rehearse with a timer, adjusting words and pauses rather than racing through a crowded slide.
- Ask a partner to pose “How do you know the notice caused the improvement?” Answer that the example cannot isolate that cause. A useful next comparison would keep conditions more comparable and state its evaluation criteria in advance.
Ensaiar tempo e responder a perguntas
Review the audience’s understanding
- Have a listener identify your main point, the two results and one limitation. If the data are recalled but the uncertainty is lost, revise the spoken explanation and the final slide. Accuracy is part of presentation quality, not an optional footnote.
- Self-check relevant media, legibility, accessible description, attribution, honest comparison, timing and backup. Keep this as rehearsal evidence; a live presentation needs audience feedback and a suitable assessment rubric.
The revised-notice group had ten correct responses out of twelve, two more than the first group. The groups differed, so the figures justify further testing rather than a claim of proven design effectiveness.
Do not crop away denominators or put an uncertainty only in tiny print that your audience cannot read.
Relevant digital media makes a spoken argument easier to understand while preserving its data, limits and source trail.
Revise a compreensão do público
The revised-notice group had ten correct responses out of twelve, two more than the first group. The groups differed, so the figures justify further testing rather than a claim of proven design effectiveness.
A listener remembers the counts but misses the limitation. What should change?
