彼此 vs 对方 (each other vs the other party)

Both sides, or the other side?

• Both involve two sides — but point differently.
• each other彼此bǐ cǐ = each other / both sides (a mutual relationship).
• the other person对方duì fāng = the other party / counterpart (the one across from you).

each other彼此bǐ cǐ = each other (mutual)

• we / us我们wǒ meneach other彼此bǐ cǐto understand了解liǎo jiě = "we understand each other." (both ways)

we我们wǒ meneach other彼此bǐ cǐtrust信任xìn rèn。

• each other彼此bǐ cǐto trust信任xìn rèn = "trust each other."

the other person对方duì fāng = the other party

• the other person对方duì fāngto agree同意tóng yì(completed / change)了le = "the other side agreed." (the counterpart)
