Three noun-phrase tools. Suoyou with dou counts the whole crowd in, every single one. Zhiyi points at one trophy without denying the rest, one of the. Lingwai hands you the other one. And each has one rule the exam loves: where the negative sits in a suoyou sentence, zhiyi's fixed place at the end, and the missing de after lingwai.
Suoyou means all of, every single, the whole set, and it pairs with dou in the predicate like a bouncer counting the whole crowd in. Suoyou ren dou zou le ma, has everyone left. Women xuexiao suoyou de laoshi dou hui shuo Yingwen, all the teachers at our school can speak English. A bare dou says all; suoyou dou says every single one, with feeling on each head.
The trap is where the negative sits. To say not all, negate the whole sentence with bushi: bushi suoyou ren dou qu, not everyone is going, some go. But suoyou ren dou bu qu, all people all not go, means none of them are going, nobody goes. One bu, two completely different crowds, and it is the same flip as topic one's quan dou bu versus bu quan dou. Defend a film with it: bushi suoyou ren dou bu xihuan zhe bu dianying, not everyone dislikes this film.
Zhiyi bolts onto the end of the phrase: my best friends, of which, one. Ta shi wo zui hao de pengyou zhiyi, she is one of my best friends. Zhe shi shijie shang zui da de chengshi zhiyi, this is one of the biggest cities in the world. The zhi is old-style of, but the phrase is everyday, even in speech, and it loves a zui phrase. Picture a shelf of trophies: zhiyi points at one without denying the others, which is why the English noun is quietly plural, one of my best friends.
Lingwai singles out the remaining or different one. The countdown shape: wo you liang ge shouji, yige shi Xiaomi, ling yige shi iPhone, I have two phones, one's a Xiaomi, the other's an iPhone. Two rules lock it. No de after it: lingwai yige ren is right, while lingwai de ren means something looser, other people in general. And bare ling is snappier for a singular, ling yige, ling yi zhong. The try-it sentence: women jie shang you liang jia naicha dian, yijia hen huo, ling yijia geng haohе, one shop is popular, the other is tastier.
Pause and check both. First, nobody goes, because suoyou ren dou bu qu is all people all not go, the total negative. Second, the fix drops the de: ling yige shi iPhone, the other one is the iPhone. The remaining review items: bushi suoyou ren dou qu means some go, and not everyone likes winter is bushi suoyou ren dou xihuan dongtian. Three tools, three locks, and each lock is one mark.
