Supported preparation: HL research transformed into practice

Scope and prerequisites

IB visual arts first assessment 2016; 2027 course tracked separately. Current SL exhibition selects 4–7 works; HL 8–11. SL process portfolio 9–18 screens, HL 13–25; comparative study 10–15 screens plus 3–5 HL screens linking own practice. Use school-selected artists and licensed/credited images.

Mapped preparation outcomes: ib_visual_arts_hl.4.1, ib_visual_arts_hl.4.2. Read the matching native lesson first. Actual approved choices, evidence and final learner work remain separate.

Source vocabulary

negative space 负空间; artistic influence 艺术影响.

Explanation and worked method

A meaningful connection identifies a credited researched idea, a tested transformation and an evaluated contribution to the learner's intention. Similar appearance alone cannot establish influence or critical engagement.

Original classroom evidence panel for HL research transformed into practice

Task: more negative space is added to an original study after comparative research. What would support a transformed connection?

Cite the actual researched source, compare earlier and later studies, explain changes in emphasis and evaluate whether they serve a different personal inquiry. Retain material and compositional decisions, not only the final resemblance.

Independent transfer

A credited negative-space trial fails to communicate distance. What learning can still be shown?

Attempt independently before reading the model.

Checked original model

Compare the earlier and later actual studies, identify the feature that did not work and explain how it changes the next decision. Credit the researched idea while evaluating the learner's transformation. A failed result can support development; invented trials or resemblance alone cannot.

These are authored formative expectations, not official IB descriptors. Accept other justified arguments with evidence and material limits.
