Scope and prerequisites
IB visual arts first assessment 2016; 2027 course tracked separately. Current SL exhibition selects 4–7 works; HL 8–11. SL process portfolio 9–18 screens, HL 13–25; comparative study 10–15 screens plus 3–5 HL screens linking own practice. Use school-selected artists and licensed/credited images.
Mapped preparation outcomes: ib_visual_arts_hl.2.1, ib_visual_arts_hl.2.2. Read the matching native lesson first. Actual approved choices, evidence and final learner work remain separate.

Explanation and worked method
A process record explains a question, changed variable, result and next decision. Keep actual dated trials and references; credit a researched strategy while transforming it to serve your intention rather than copying an appearance.

Task: a pupil changes pressure and paper simultaneously, then attributes a texture difference entirely to pressure. Improve the inquiry.
Separate pressure trials on the same paper, then test paper with pressure held comparable. Compare actual marks and explain which result supports the next artistic decision.
Independent transfer
A poorly controlled texture trial produces a useful effect. Can it inform the artwork?
Attempt independently before reading the model.
Checked original model
Yes, the actual effect may inform a creative decision even though pressure alone cannot be claimed as its cause. Record changed variables, test a focused follow-up if useful and evaluate the effect against intention. Artistic value and causal certainty answer different questions.
These are authored formative expectations, not official IB descriptors. Accept other justified arguments with evidence and material limits.
