This frame covers …… ,反而 ……. 反而 means the result is the opposite of what you expected. In English we often say "on the contrary", "instead", or "actually". The first part of the sentence gives the situation, or what people expected. The part with 反而 gives what really happened., It sits before the verb, inside one clause. English-speaker trap: Chinese needs no "but" — 反而 carries the reversal.
