if only只要 … then / just就 … gives a sufficient condition — "as long as A, then B." A on its own is enough to guarantee B (even if it isn't the only route there).
Structure: 只要 + Condition ,就 + Result
as long as只要you你hard努力study学习then,就will会make有progress进步。
to do with difficulty勉強さえすれば、進歩する。
whenever只要it rains下雨she,她then就mood心情bad不好。
ポイント: if only只要 = 「〜only只to need需要」(very十分condition条件、to repeat複(literary) frequently数のmethod方法のone / a一つかもしれない);only have ...只有 = 「〜Only if」(only唯一のmethod方法)。if only只要 はthen / just就 とJapanese variant of 对対になります;only has pairs with only then / not until才。one / a一 vs only then / not until才 のto disobey違いがto distinguish識別point点だ—below see only have ...只有 below.
Remember: lock the pairs: if only只要…then / just就… = "enough → then" (sufficient); only have ...只有…only then / not until才… = "the only way → then" (necessary). if only只要 reaches for then / just就, only have ...只有 reaches for only then / not until才.
Watch out
- Swapping then / just就 for only then / not until才 quietly turns "as long as" into "only if" — mind the partner.
