A decision before an answer
- A retelling that lists to rain下雨、car汽车、school学校 may retain vocabulary but loses why the speaker changed the plan.
- Your goal: Retell heard events with their causal and chronological relationships.
Read the relationship
- The new level-four oral sample has five tasks: two retellings with forty seconds each, one picture response with three minutes preparation and two minutes speaking, and two question responses with three and a half minutes preparation and two minutes speaking each. The full sample takes about twenty minutes including ten minutes preparation.
- Describe a picture for two minutes after preparation.

Rain is the stated cause; no other cause is given.
Use the defining rule
- In retelling, identify the starting situation, the event that changes it and the result. Keep who did what to whom and why. You may reorganise wording without reversing the event. If a detail is uncertain, do not invent a replacement; preserve the relationships you understood. Teachers keep the original listening text hidden until feedback.
- Answer a spoken question with reasons and a concrete example.
A picture does not prove two people are relatives. Say:

A cautious inference respects the limits of the image.
Check the conditions
- For the picture, prepare visible facts and a cautious account of relationships. Say left左边 or the back后面 only where the spatial relationship is visible. Develop connected sentences about actions and setting instead of racing through nouns. Mark an inference as possible rather than certain when the image does not establish it.
- Answer a spoken question with reasons and a concrete example.

Apply the task format
- For the question, choose a position, a reason and an example. Acknowledge a condition when needed: I / me我more更to like喜欢…,but不过if如果… . The response should be sustained speech, not memorised lines unrelated to the question. Record intelligibility, organisation and content before correcting individual forms; the human observation remains separate from local written checks.
- Answer a spoken question with reasons and a concrete example.
Retelling is not inventing a new story. A smooth account with the wrong cause or outcome needs content feedback.
