One pattern owns this topic. Jishi, dot, dot, dot, ye grants a hypothetical and then says it changes nothing: even if A, still B. The exam tests two things, the ye in the second clause, and keeping jishi, a supposition, apart from suiran, a fact. Grant it, then dismiss it; that is the whole mood of the frame.
The structure is jishi plus a condition, then the subject, then ye plus the result. Jishi ni bu xiang rang wo qu, wo ye yao qu, even if you don't want me to go, I'm still going. Jishi ni hen youqian, ye mai bu dao xingfu, even if you were rich, you couldn't buy happiness. Jishi ni mei weikou, ye yao chi yidian, even if you've no appetite, you should still eat a bit. The clause after jishi is a supposition you are entertaining, not yet true, maybe never true, and the ye clause overrides it. The ye is non-negotiable; a jishi sentence without it is the classic error.
A friend says the tickets are probably sold out, and you answer in the frame's own rhythm. Grant the worst case: jishi piao maiwan le, even if they are sold out. Dismiss it: women ye keyi wenwen you meiyou tuipiao, we can still ask about returns. The ye carries the still, and saying the sentence aloud with that shrug is how the pattern becomes yours.
The difference is whether the first clause has actually happened. Ta suiran bing le, dan haishi lai le, he was ill, a fact, yet he came. Swap in jishi and the illness becomes an imagined case: jishi bing le, ta ye hui lai, even if he fell ill, he would still come. Ask one question before choosing: has it actually happened? A fact takes suiran, and a still-imagined case takes jishi.
Pause and choose. True: the clause after jishi is entertained rather than asserted, so jishi ni hen youqian, ye mai bu dao xingfu can hold up a rich you that may not exist. That freedom is exactly what separates jishi from suiran, which reports the world as it is. Close the cousins preview: at HSK five, jiusuan and napa join the family, both a touch more colloquial; at HSK four, jishi ye is the pattern to own.
