English

Short, load-bearing, and then out of the way

  • In a timed essay, every sentence spent on the introduction is a sentence not spent on evidence.
  • Four of the six rubric points live in the body.
  • So the introduction should do its job in two or three sentences and stop.

A timed introduction that starts with the history of everything leaves the body waiting outside.

Français

Courte, portante, puis hors du chemin

  • Dans un essai chronométré, chaque phrase passée dans l'introduction est une phrase non consacrée aux preuves.
  • Quatre des six points de la grille se trouvent dans le corps de l'essai.
  • Donc l'introduction doit remplir son rôle en deux ou trois phrases et s'arrêter.

Une introduction chronométrée qui commence par l'histoire de tout laisse le corps de l'essai attendre dehors.
