Greet someone, exchange names, and ask about an identity.
Before you start: Start with greetings, names and simple identities. Use the word help when needed.

Listen before reading the script
Ask a partner to read the listening script from the answer section while you keep it covered. Then attempt the listening question. If you work alone without audio, use the script for reading practice; it is not a listening test.
Read a different account
hello你好!I / me我variant of 叫叫林安。I / me我to be / is是student学生。Wang Li (1900-1986), one of…王力to be / is是teacher老师。
Try the reading question before checking the English meaning in the answer section.
Speak with a partner
Greet a new classmate, give your name, and ask their name. Use real or fictional names.
Check the distinction: variant of 叫叫 gives a name; to be / is是 gives an identity. Use I / me我variant of 叫叫林安 and I / me我to be / is是student学生, rather than swapping the two verbs.

A fresh situation
R1. Interpret and repair. At a first meeting, a learner says I / me我to be / is是林安 to introduce a name. Is it impossible? Which pattern makes the name function explicit?
R2. Use it yourself. Greet a new partner, introduce a fictional name, ask their name and state that you are a student.
Write your responses before opening the key. Compare meaning as well as form; a different valid answer need not copy the model.

Speaking model
hello你好!I / me我variant of 叫叫林安。you你variant of 叫叫what什么name (of a person or thing)名字?
Compare the intended message first. Ask a listener to comment on intelligibility and pronunciation; matching the written model does not establish speaking accuracy.
Fresh-situation answers
R1. I / me我to be / is是林安 can identify a person and is natural in context. I / me我variant of 叫叫林安 explicitly gives a name. Use I / me我to be / is是student学生 for an identity; do not teach to be / is是 as impossible with a name.
R2. One possible response. hello你好!I / me我variant of 叫叫林安。you你variant of 叫叫what什么name (of a person or thing)名字?I / me我to be / is是student学生。variant of 叫叫 introduces the name; to be / is是 states the role. Do not add (yes/no ?)吗 to the what什么name (of a person or thing)名字 information question.
Recall later. Tomorrow, swap names and roles, then recall the greeting without the model.
