Conditionals — first and second
IntroducedIf … , then …

- الحالة الشرطية تقول "إذا حدث هذا، ثم يحدث ذلك".
- عند مستوى B1، نركز على الحالة الشرطية الأولى والثانية.
- تبدو متشابهة لكنها تعني أشياء مختلفة.
إذا هطل المطر غداً، سيختار مظلتي البقاء في المنزل.
الحالة الشرطية الأولى — مستقبل حقيقي
If + present simple, will + base verb.- لمستقبل حقيقي ومحتمل.
- إذا هطل المطر، سنبقى في المنزل. إذا أسرعت، ستلتقط الحافلة.
Complete the first conditional: If it rains, we ___ at home.
First conditional: If + present, will + base verb → “will stay”.
Is this correct? “If it will rain, we will stay home.”
The if-clause uses the present, not will: “If it rains, we will stay home.”
Translate into English: 如果下雨,我们就待在家里。
First conditional: If + present, will + base verb.
الحالة الشرطية الثانية — غير حقيقي / مستبعد
If + past simple, would + base verb.- لشيء خيالي أو مستبعد الآن.
- لو كان لدي وقت أكثر، لسافرت. لو كنت مكانك، لأرتحت.
First or second conditional?
First = real future (present + will); second = unreal now (past + would).
الحالة الثانية الشرطية: لو كنتُ ___ منك، لأرتحت. (استخدم الماضي من "be")
Second conditional often uses “were” for all subjects: “If I were you …”.
unless
- unless = if … not.
- ستتأخر إلا إذا أسرعت. (= إذا لم تسرع)
- لا تضيف "not" أخرى بعد unless.
أخطاء شائعة
- ❌ If I will have time, I'll help. → ✓ If I have time, I'll help.
- ❌ If I would be rich, I would travel. → ✓ If I were rich… — would تبقى في الجملة الرئيسية.
- ابقِ الزوج معاً: حقيقي → If + مضارع، will؛ غير حقيقي → If + ماضي، would.
Match each if-clause to its main clause.
First conditional → will; second → would; zero (facts) → present + present.
أي جملة صحيحة؟
Unreal present: If + past simple, would + base.
- الحالة الشرطية الأولى (حقيقية): If + مضارع، will + الفعل في المصدر.
- الحالة الشرطية الثانية (غير حقيقية): If + ماضي، would + الفعل في المصدر.
- جملة If لا تستخدم will أبداً؛ unless = if … not.
Imagine an unreal situation. Write one sentence with the second conditional (If + past, would + base verb).
Example: “If I won the lottery, I would travel the world.”
