Description records what happened
- “We worked in the garden for two hours” describes an event. It does not yet explain what you learned or how you responded to difficulty.
- Pick a specific moment: a tool shortage, a disagreement or unexpected feedback. A small, well-explained moment can reveal more than a long list of activities.
Examine your response
- State what you first thought and what you did. Then explain why you made that choice and how it affected other people.
- Reflection 反思 connects an experience to understanding. Ask whether your assumptions were useful and what evidence changed your view.
Which sentence begins to reflect rather than only describe? ·
The sentence identifies learning and a response to a specific difficulty. ·
Include another perspective
- A teammate may think your instructions were unclear even when you believe you explained them well. Describe the feedback fairly before responding.
- Compare your intention with the effect. Good intentions do not remove the need to understand how others experienced the activity.
Good intentions mean that other people’s feedback can be ignored. ·
The effect on others still matters and may reveal an assumption that needs revision. ·
Identify a next step
- “I will improve teamwork” is vague. “I will agree roles with the group before work begins and check them after fifteen minutes” is an action you can review.
- An outcome 结果 is supported by evidence of learning over time. One claim of improvement is weaker than a change you can explain through later action.
Which next step is most actionable? ·
The action is specific enough to carry out and review. ·
Keep the record honest
- Credit contributions and protect other people’s privacy. Do not invent a challenge or claim a learning outcome just to make the record sound impressive.
- Use your school’s portfolio and coordinator process to connect reflections to CAS requirements. Reflection is meaningful when it helps future decisions.
An invented challenge is acceptable if it makes the portfolio more convincing. ·
A reflection should accurately describe real experience and learning. ·
Match each term to its role in this lesson. ·
The distinctions help you explain your decisions clearly. ·
Which details belong in an honest reflection? ·
Choose actions supported by the evidence and the purpose of the task; reject shortcuts that hide limitations or invent information. ·
After a confused session, a student agrees roles before the next visit and asks teammates to explain their tasks. The later response gives evidence for whether communication improved.
A long account of time spent can still contain very little reflection on learning.
Reflect on a specific decision, compare intention with effect, consider feedback and choose a concrete next action. Keep the record accurate and respect others’ privacy.
