    • Put not不bù before should应该yīng gāi to say "shouldn't": you你nǐnot不bùshould应该yīng gāito go去qù, not you你nǐshould应该yīng gāi不去bù qù.

    Answers and explanations

should应该yīng gāi / should该gāi (should, ought to)

    0304.1 should应该yīng gāi

should应该yīng gāi + verb gives advice.

    0304.2 A. It's your turn.

    should该gāi + person = it's that person's turn.

    0304.3 十二点shí èr diǎn(completed / change)了le,I / me我wǒshould该gāito walk走zǒu(completed / change)了le。

    should该gāi + verb + (completed / change)了le = it's time to.

    0304.4 False.

Here should应该yīng gāi is a confident guess: “he should be home by now.”

0304.5 One possible response: you你nǐshould应该yīng gāi多带duō dàia bit一点yì diǎnwater水shuǐ。

    Check meaning and form:

    • My response conveys a message that fits the opening situation.
    • I can explain the meaning of the pattern, rather than only naming it.
    • should应该yīng gāi goes after the subject and before the verb: you你nǐshould应该yīng gāirest休息xiū xī, not should应该yīng gāiyou你nǐrest休息xiū xī (unless you mean "it's your turn").
    • Put not不bù before should应该yīng gāi to say "shouldn't": you你nǐnot不bùshould应该yīng gāito go去qù, not you你nǐshould应该yīng gāi不去bù qù.
    • I tried a second response with a name, time, place, or description changed.

This is supported productive practice. Compare meaning and structure; your answer need not copy the model. A partner or teacher must hear the spoken response to comment on pronunciation.
