50 ohms from geometry
- The telegrapher equations give $Z_{0} = \sqrt{L'/C'}$ and $v_{p} = 1/\sqrt{L'C'}$: a coax with 250 nH/m and 100 pF/m IS the 50 Ω, 0.67c cable.

12 V into that 50 Ω line, open-ended: the incident 12 V/0.24 A reflects at $\Gamma = +1$ — voltage doubles to 24 V, current cancels to 0 ✓.

A line with L-prime 250 nH/m and C-prime 100 pF/m has Z0 —

Z0 = √(L′/C′) = √(2500) = 50 Ω — a ratio per metre; the line length never enters.
The same line wave velocity is —

vp = 1/√(L′C′) = 1/√(250e-9 × 100e-12) = 2×10⁸ m/s — the dielectric slows light by a third.

- $\Gamma = (Z_{L} - Z_{0})/(Z_{L} + Z_{0})$: a short inverts (−1), an open doubles (+1). At 3 GHz, 40 cm of this line is SIX wavelengths — a line, not a circuit.

Γ = (0 − 50)/(0 + 50) = −1. The open is the mirror case at +1; both extremes are signatures on a standing-wave meter.
