The universal formula
- Sifting decomposes any input into delayed impulses; linearity + time invariance turn each into a scaled, shifted $h$: $y(t) = \int x(\tau)h(t-\tau)\,d\tau$.

$u(t)$ into $e^{-t}u(t)$: $y(t) = 1 - e^{-t}$ with $y(1.5) = 0.777$; check $y(0) = 0$, $y(\infty) = 1$ ✓.

u(t) into h(t) = e^{−t}u(t): y(1.5) equals —

y(t) = 1 − e^{−t}, so y(1.5) = 1 − 0.223 = 0.777 — the shaded overlap area at t = 1.5.
Three properties that halve the work
- Commutative ($x*h = h*x$); widths add ($W_{1} + W_{2}$); a cascade convolves its impulse responses. Superposition by steps turns any rectangle into a sum of two step responses.

A 2 s unit-height rectangle into h = e^{−t}u(t): y(3) equals —

Superpose step ON at 0 and step OFF at 2: y(3) = (1 − e^{−3}) − (1 − e^{−1}) = e^{−1} − e^{−3}.
Convolving two rectangles of widths 1 and 2 gives a result of width —
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + phần thưởng nhỏ khi hoàn thành lần đầu tiên hôm nay
Widths add: 1 + 2 = 3 — the trapezoid (or triangle) tapers over the sum of the widths.
