Vector calculus: fields in three operators
- Gradient 梯度 (E = −∇V), divergence 散度 (outflow; charge), curl 旋度 (circulation; zero in electrostatics).
- Verify with a small step: $-E\cdot δ$ must equal the potential change $ΔV$ — the 0.12 V check.

V = 3x²y. The electric field E at (1, 2) is —

∇V = (6xy, 3x²) = (12, 3) at the point; E = −∇V = −(12, 3). The small-step check: a 0.01 step in x changes V by 0.12 V, matching −E·δ.
A uniform field F = (1, 0) everywhere has —

No arrows spread apart and none turn: div = d(1)/dx-part-zero + ... = 0 and the curl components are all differences of constants. Uniform flow is the null field of both operators.
For F = (x^2, xy, 3x^2 z), the divergence at the point (1, 1, 1) is —

div = d(x^2)/dx + d(xy)/dy + d(3x^2 z)/dz = 2x + x + 3x^2; at (1,1,1): 2 + 1 + 3 = 6 - a net source there, the pointwise version of Gauss law.
