equals等于 versus to be / is是
- to be / is是 states identity: he / him他to be / is是I / me我(modifier / structural particle)的teacher老师.
- equals等于 says one thing has the same effect or value as another: taciturn沉默equals等于to agree同意.
cheap便宜not不equals等于bad不好。
等于 can express that two things have the same effect.
