Which way to the station?
- You ask a passer-by for the station. She points and tells you which way to walk.
- towards往front前walk走，to / arrive到crossing路口towards往left左variant of 拐拐。 — "Walk straight ahead, and turn left at the crossing."
towards往 + direction + verb
- towards往 means "towards": towards往front前walk走, walk forwards; towards往left左variant of 拐拐, turn left; towards往(bound form) right右to see看, look right.
- The direction comes straight after towards往, and the movement verb follows.

towards往 + place
- towards往 can also take a place: this这(measure word)辆bus车towards往Beijing北京drive开。 — "This bus goes towards Beijing."
- Common directions: front前, back后, left左, (bound form) right右, east东, west西, south南, north北, (bound form) up上, down下.

Giving directions step by step
- Join the steps with early先……again / then再……: early先towards往front前walk走，again / then再towards往(bound form) right右variant of 拐拐。 — "First go straight, then turn right."
- to / arrive到 marks where the next step happens: to / arrive到bank银行towards往left左variant of 拐拐, turn left when you reach the bank.

先……再…… orders the steps, and 往 + direction comes before each verb.

到 + place marks where the next step happens, then 往 + direction + verb.
Watch out
- towards往 goes before the verb: towards往left左variant of 拐拐, not variant of 拐拐towards往left左.
- towards往 shows direction, not arrival. towards往Beijing北京drive开 means heading for Beijing; to / arrive到Beijing北京(completed / change)了 means you have arrived.
这辆车往北京开 means the bus has already arrived in Beijing.

False. 往 shows the direction the bus is heading; arrival would be 到北京了.
