Two words, same sentence
- "The scientist's early findings were ___, but later experiments confirmed them." Choices: tentative 暂定的, provisional, definitive, celebrated, erroneous, conclusive.
- Sentence equivalence needs exactly two choices that fit the context and produce sentences with the same meaning: tentative and provisional.
Fit first, then pair
- Predict from the clue: "but later experiments confirmed them" → the early findings were uncertain.
- Find choices meaning uncertain: tentative, provisional. Definitive and conclusive are a pair too — but they reverse the meaning.
“The scientist's early findings were ___, but later experiments confirmed them.” Select TWO.

In sentence equivalence you must choose exactly ____ answers.
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
Both are needed for credit.
Reject wrong-direction pairs
- A pair of synonyms that does not fit the sentence (definitive / conclusive here) is a deliberate trap.
- A single good word without a partner is not enough: both answers are needed for credit.
Right pair, trap pair, or no pair?
Evaluate sentence-equivalence choices.
If two choices are synonyms, they must be the answer.

The pair must also fit the sentence.
Check the resulting sentences
- Read the sentence with each chosen word: do both versions say the same thing?
- Erroneous would call the findings wrong, which clashes with "later experiments confirmed them" — reject it.
"Her manner was ___; she rarely revealed her opinions." Prediction: reserved. Pair: reticent 沉默寡言的, taciturn. Trap pair: garrulous, loquacious (synonyms, wrong direction).
“Her manner was ___; she rarely revealed her opinions.” Select TWO.
Độ khó 2/5 · 140 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
Reticent and taciturn mean reserved; garrulous/loquacious are a wrong-direction pair.
When you lack a word
- Use the clue to eliminate clear misfits, then look for the two remaining words closest in meaning.
- Knowing roots helps: verbose / loquacious (many words), laconic / terse (few words).
Which pair both mean “using few words”?

Laconic and terse = brief.
