Answering an email with notes
- Part 1 of B1 Writing: your English friend Alex emails about a school trip, and four notes are written next to the email: "Great!", "Tell Alex", "Explain", "Suggest…".
- You write an email of about 100 words that responds to every note, in a friendly, organised way.
One paragraph 段落 per note
- Opening: "Hi Alex, Thanks for your email." Then a short paragraph for each note, in order. Close: "Write soon, Lin".
- Turn each note into a clear sentence or two: "Great!" → "That trip sounds amazing!"; "Suggest…" → "Why don't we take the train? It's quicker."
Put the email in order.

Useful functions
- Thanking and reacting: Thanks for…, That's great news! Explaining: The reason is…, because… Suggesting: Why don't we…?, How about…?, Let's….
- Linking: and, but, so, also, however, as well.
Note: "Explain which day is best for you." → "Saturday is better for me because I have a piano lesson on Sunday morning."

Check before you finish
- Every note answered? About 100 words (not 50, not 200)? Friendly tone 语气 with an opening and a closing?
- Check verb tenses and spelling of common words.
How long should the Part 1 email be?
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
The task asks for about 100 words.
Common mistakes
- Missing one note — this lowers the content mark.
- Copying the notes as they are ("Suggest…") instead of writing full sentences.
Answering three of the four notes well is enough for full content marks.
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
Every note must be answered.
Recap
- Opening, one paragraph per note, closing; about 100 words.
- Use functions: thank, explain (because), suggest (Why don't we…?); link ideas.
Write from a missing question
- The notes ask you to say when you can travel, suggest a place, explain why, and ask about the cost.
- About 100 words. A reply that never asks about the cost misses a note. This checklist does not give a Cambridge Scale score.
An email's notes ask for a time, a place, a reason and a question about the cost. Why does a clear reply still fail if it never mentions the cost?
The notes are the content checklist. Development explains a point. It does not replace a missing point.
Which reply addresses every note?

The cost question is one of the required notes. Copying the notes is not answering them.
