Six gaps, two kinds
- Part 5: "The museum was very ___, so we stayed for three hours." Options: interesting, interested, boring, bored. Part 6: "We had ___ wonderful time" — write one word.
- Answers: interesting (it describes the museum) and a. Part 5 tests vocabulary; Part 6 tests grammar words.
Part 5: four-option cloze
- Options are often close in meaning; the sentence decides: -ing adjectives describe the thing (interesting film), -ed adjectives the person's feeling (interested students).
- Check what follows the gap: "rely ___ " needs on; "interested ___" needs in.
-ing or -ed?
Choose -ing adjectives for causes and -ed adjectives for feelings.
The students were very ___ in the talk about space.
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
-ed describes how the students felt; it is followed by in.
Part 6: one grammar word
- Likely words: articles (a, an, the), prepositions 介词 (on, in, at, for), pronouns (it, which, who), auxiliaries (has, was, been), linkers (although, because), comparatives (than, as).
- Read the whole sentence: "She is taller ___ her brother" → than.
"I've been learning the guitar ___ two years, and I practise ___ day." → for, every.

Phrasal verbs 短语动词 and fixed phrases
- B1 texts use phrasal verbs: look after, give up, find out, set off. "We set ___ early to avoid the traffic" → off.
- Fixed phrases: in fact, at least, on time, for example.
We set ____ early to avoid the traffic. (one word)

Set off = start a journey.
Common mistakes
- Confusing -ing and -ed adjectives (I was boring ✗ → I was bored).
- Writing a word that fits the meaning but breaks the grammar after it.
“The film was boring, so I was bored” uses both adjectives correctly.
Độ khó 1/5 · 100 xu + một phần thưởng nhỏ cho lần hoàn thành đầu tiên trong ngày
The film causes the feeling (boring); I feel it (bored).
Recap
- Part 5: meaning plus the words after the gap (prepositions, patterns); -ing vs -ed.
- Part 6: one grammar word; read the whole sentence; know common phrasal verbs.
- phrasal verb: A verb plus a particle with its own meaning, such as give up.
Write from make and do
- Make a decision uses make. Do homework uses do. Translation can hide the pattern.
- Part 6 still needs one word. Check tense and agreement after you fill the gap.
Why does Make a decision take make, while Do homework takes do? What must you check after choosing a Part 6 word?
Collocation is the common combination. Similar meanings can need different words.
Which pair matches the lesson's patterns?

Decision takes make. Homework takes do. A shared translation does not make the verbs interchangeable.
