Answer, then add a little
- The examiner 考官 asks: "Do you like sport?" One student says "Yes." Another says "Yes, I do. I play basketball with my friends after school."
- A2 Key Speaking rewards short answers with a little extra: a reason, a detail or an example.
The two parts
- Part 1: the examiner asks personal questions (name, school, free time, family). Answer and add one detail.
- Part 2: you and a partner talk about pictures (for example, different holidays or hobbies), say what you like and why, and respond to each other.
Add a reason or detail
- Use because, and, but: "I like reading because it's relaxing." "I have one brother and he's twelve."
- Use time and frequency: "I usually go swimming on Saturdays."
Q: "What do you do at weekends?" Short: "Play games." Better: "I usually play computer games, but on Sundays I visit my grandparents."

- Give the activity and one reason. Speaking with a partner is not replaced by this written line.
The examiner asks what you enjoy after school. Write a direct answer about reading, with one reason. Why is Yes not enough, and why is this line not the speaking test?
Part 1 needs a direct answer plus one detail. Part 2 needs a preference, a reason and a response to a partner.
