This is the speaking floor for everything the grammar built. Tell a short story in time order on the rail xian, ranhou, zuihou. Compare with bi, which says more than, and meiyou, which says not up to. Give reasons with yinwei and suoyi, both halves spoken like one arch. And above all: a spoken answer has a spine, point, support, close. Say the spine, not the dictionary.
The story spine rides the time rail. Last weekend I first went to the library, then played basketball, and finally had dinner with friends. Xian, then; ranhou, then; zuihou, finally: the time words are the rail, and the verbs are the train, one sentence per stop. And a story needs one turn to be a story, not a list: suddenly it rained, and what you did next is why anyone listens.
Two comparison tools. Bi says more than: today is colder than yesterday, bi plus the standard plus the adjective. To say how much more, hen drops out and duo le or yi dianr takes its place: much colder, a bit colder. And meiyou says not up to: I am not as tall as him, meiyou plus the standard plus the adjective. Never mix them: meiyou never takes bi, and bi never keeps hen.
The reason arch stands on two legs. Yinwei it rained, suoyi I did not go play ball. English picks one half, because or so, but Chinese happily speaks both, and the arch holds because the two legs share the weight. Keep one leg per clause, cause first, so the listener can stop you early and still know why.
Now braid the three. A ninety-second answer: point, I prefer the subway. Support, I used to take the bus, and once it was stuck for half an hour, so I switched. Close, the subway is much faster than the bus. Compare, then story, then reason, braided and not listed, and the final bi sentence lands as the verdict. That is the spine, and the spine is the answer.
Watch out. Do not write your answer and recite it: the floor hears essays instantly, and the spine was built to be spoken. Drop hen inside a bi sentence, never add bi to meiyou, and give each story exactly one turn, because a story with three turns is a saga, and sagas eat the clock.
Check yourself. Name the three time-rail words for a story. Say today is much colder than yesterday with bi. Not as busy as him: meiyou or bi? And which two halves carry the reason arch? If the spine stands, the floor is yours.
