Pinyin turns any keyboard into a Chinese keyboard: type the sound, pick the character from a list ordered by frequency. And a course is a habit, not a sprint. This last topic sets both: your first full typed sentence, and the ten-minute daily loop that keeps the language alive. Little and daily beats big and weekly.
Your first typed sentence. Add the Chinese, Simplified, pinyin keyboard in your settings. Now type w-o, and choose 我, I. Type s-h-i, and choose 是, am. Type the letters of 学生, and the system may offer both characters at once: 学生, student. Press the number or click, and there it is: I am a student, in characters. Tone marks are optional when typing: type s-h-i without the mark, and pick by meaning from the list.
Three typing corners. First, the u with dots: type v. n-v gives 女, female; l-v gives 绿, green. Second, glued syllables need a split: 西安, the city, is typed x-i apostrophe a-n, or with a space, because x-i-a-n on its own resolves to a different word. Third, when the choice list is long, do not hunt: keep typing the next syllable, and the list narrows by itself.
The ten-minute loop. Minutes one to three: say the words from yesterday aloud, with your hand keeping the tones. Minutes four to seven: type two new words, or one small sentence, into the phone. Minutes eight to nine: read back what you typed, and fix one thing. Minute ten: close the book, because tomorrow is part of the method. Five loops a week is fifty minutes that stick, and a weekend marathon is a memory by Thursday.
Watch out. Do not skip the saying step, because typing alone trains the fingers, not the mouth, and this course lives in your mouth. Choose characters by meaning, not by position: the top of the list is only a frequency guess. And if you miss a day, do not double tomorrow; restart the loop instead, because the chain matters more than the length of any link.
Check yourself. Typing I am a student: what do you type for the middle word? How do you type 女, female? What does the apostrophe do in 西安? And name the four steps of the ten-minute loop. If the loop starts tomorrow, the course has started.
