English Meaning
natural frequency/ˈnætʃərəl ˈfriːkwənsi/A frequency at which a system oscillates freely after being disturbed.
damping/ˈdæmpɪŋ/The reduction of oscillation amplitude caused by energy transfer out of the oscillating system.
overdampedDamped so strongly that the system returns to rest slowly, without oscillating.
critically dampedDamped just enough to return to rest as fast as possible without overshooting.
underdampedDamped lightly, so the system oscillates as it settles.
Q factorA measure of how sharp a resonance is: a higher Q means a narrower, taller peak.
