Summary, notes, tables and flow charts — complete the right relationship

Keep the structure as you shorten the text

  • Outcome: complete a summary, set of notes, table or flow chart using the right evidence and response method. Start with Reading orientation and the matching and completion overview. A museum handover note is useful only if it keeps each object attached to its location; a correct word in the wrong row still sends someone to the wrong place.
  • These original mini-passages practise one decision at a time. They are not a full Reading paper, a timing target or an IELTS band prediction. A summary usually covers part of the passage. Gaps need not follow passage order, though the relevant evidence is often in one part. Read the local direction: copy passage words and select from a supplied list are different response methods.
