A useful situation
- Your goal: Say where you are going, when, and how.
- Before you start, recall tomorrow明天, time expressions with point点, and common place names. Distinguish at / in在 for a location from go去 for a destination; use the glosses supplied with unfamiliar travel words.
你去哪里？去 means go and 哪里 means where. Which reply supplies the requested kind of information?

去哪里 requests a destination. Eight o’clock answers when; by train answers how. Identify the question word before choosing a detail.
Words you will use
- go去 qù — go. I / me我go去school学校。
- train火车 huǒchē — train. I / me我travel by / sit坐train火车。
- travel by / sit坐 zuò — travel by / sit. I / me我travel by / sit坐train火车go去Shanghai上海。
- Shanghai上海 Shànghǎi — Shanghai. I / me我tomorrow明天go去Shanghai上海。
- eight o’clock八点 bā diǎn — eight o’clock. I / me我eight o’clock八点go去。
Match each word with its meaning in this unit.

Use the example sentences to check each word’s meaning in context.
Build the meaning
- Put time before the main action in this simple pattern: I / me我tomorrow明天eight o’clock八点go去Shanghai上海. Mandarin does not add an English-style future verb ending here.
- travel by / sit坐train火车 describes transport; go去Shanghai上海 gives the destination. Asking go去where哪里 needs a place; asking how / why怎么go去 needs a method.
Work through a decision: For the plan I / me我tomorrow明天eight o’clock八点travel by / sit坐train火车go去Shanghai上海, separate tomorrow (tomorrow明天), eight o’clock (eight o’clock八点), travel by train (travel by / sit坐train火车) and go to Shanghai (go去Shanghai上海). To answer how / why怎么go去, select travel by / sit坐train火车. To answer go去where哪里, select Shanghai上海. This departure plan gives no arrival time or journey duration.
Compare a plausible mistake: I / me我eight o’clock八点go去Shanghai上海 says I go to Shanghai at eight; I / me我eight o’clock八点to / arrive到Shanghai上海 says I arrive in Shanghai at eight. to / arrive到 means arrive here. Do not use the same time as both departure and arrival unless the situation independently establishes that claim.
at / in在Shanghai上海 gives a location; go去Shanghai上海 gives a destination. Do not answer go去where哪里 with only travel by / sit坐train火车.
Complete “Where are you going?”: 你去____？

去哪里 asks the destination.
The plan is 林安明天七点坐车去医院 — tomorrow Lin An goes to the hospital by vehicle at seven. Someone asks 怎么去 — how will she travel? First identify whether the question requests time, method or destination.
Difficulty 1/5 · 100 coins + a small bonus on first completion today
怎么去 asks how she travels, so 坐车 supplies the method. The other details are true within the plan but answer different questions. A true detail is not automatically a relevant reply.
Listen for a fresh detail
- Listen before revealing the script.
- Replay if you need to. This is practice: if playback is unavailable, use the script as reading and return to listening on a device with Mandarin playback.

I / me我tomorrow明天九点travel by / sit坐train火车go去Shanghai上海。
Tomorrow I take a train to Shanghai at nine.
What is the departure time?

九点 gives nine o’clock; no afternoon is stated.

Read: 王力今天在北京。明天十点坐火车去上海。Which account preserves the places and times?
Difficulty 1/5 · 100 coins + a small bonus on first completion today
今天在北京 gives today’s location; 明天十点坐火车去上海 gives tomorrow’s going time, method and destination. 去 does not supply an arrival time. The last choice reverses the cities’ roles.
Speak, write, and review
- Ask where a partner is going tomorrow and how. Give your own fictional departure plan.
- Record yourself privately or work with a partner. First try without the model, then compare the meaning and structure; a text checker cannot assess your pronunciation.
A: you你tomorrow明天go去where哪里？ B: Shanghai上海。 A: how / why怎么go去？ B: travel by / sit坐train火车。
- Write a travel plan with a time, method, and destination. Change the time from the reading.
- Tomorrow, make a different plan from memory and answer where, when and how. A few days later, contrast a go去 departure statement with a to / arrive到 arrival statement. State which time the sentence gives and which time remains unknown.
Say where you are going, when, and how. Use the examples as support, then try a fresh version. Completing these exercises records practice, not a guarantee of mastery.

Write a travel plan with a time, method, and destination. Change the time from the reading.
Compare the meaning and structure with the checklist. Your own response may differ from the model.
Use Mandarin for the new sentences or dialogue. You may explain your reasoning in English. Make a new fictional plan: choose a destination, departure time and method. Write the plan and two different questions that a partner can answer from it. Then name one journey detail your plan does not establish. Speak the questions and replies if working with a partner.
Check each question against the exact phrase that answers it. If you supplied an arrival time from a departure plan, mark it as unknown and revise. Compare meanings rather than copying the model’s itinerary; self-review does not assess pronunciation.
